help with gallery/category/subcategory spacing

I am looking to cut down on the dead space between thumbnails on my gallery, category, and subcategory pages. I have tried a few things but it never seems to take hold universally.

I'm in the same boat if anyone knows the right CSS code to get us started. I have acres of space between my galleries on the subcategory page (http://sonsamphoto.smugmug.com/Travel/278445).

Agreed-

If anyone knows the right stuff to fix this, it would be much appreciated. Also Any way to make the thumbs on a subcategory page be the same size as on the category page. Check this link (http://spencephotographics.smugmug.com/Sports/281455) and see the difference between the volleyball subcategory and the sports category thumb sizes. Any help would be great!
