EXIF DATA (http://purified.smugmug.com/photos/newexif.mg?ImageID=124406752)

I gave my five cats a photoshoot a few weeks back in the outdoors. Only a few turned out--most were overexposed. I found that this was the best shot. Please critique!

5 cats outdoors??? I can picture you in my mind trying to follow kitties all over the yard! Cats (and I love them!) are quite often not too ....mmmm...cooperative. But, then again, some will just roll right over and pose prettily! This is a neat profile. What I especially like is the nice background which compliments the eyes. The whiskers are sharper than the eye, but not terribly so, and after all ....what is a cat without it's whiskers? I like the composition and his intense "stare" has my curiosity up as to what he was looking at. Do you know what caused your shots to be over-exposed? If not, you might post a couple and ask for advice. :D

Thank you! Luckily for me they like to perch on the deck for a few minutes before they venture outward, like in this picture. She is leaning under the railing, and the background is an overturned plant pot next to her on the deck. :D

Sadly I do not have the overexposed photos I took. The photos somehow became corrupted after I lent the card to my mother. This photo and a few others are the only ones I had saved to a folder on my computer.

Very nice capture! I agree that the whiskers are a bit sharp compared to the eye. I would also like to see the ear either in or out.

Purified,

Nice to see you posting again...you have such creative talent!

The composition is good although the crop is a bit too tight on the top and you're cutting off a bit of the right ear. The color contrast is great between the background and your cat. You didn't get enough depth-of-field to get the important features of the cat in focus and I think that's the biggest flaw with this image. You definitely want to have the eye and profile in focus.

Did you use an off-center focus point? You have to be careful with these because the off-center focus points are not cross-type sensors and will only pick up lines oriented a particular way causing the optimal focus point to shift away from where you intend.
