View Full Version : Assignment #22: Glass

OK, now we all got some enlightenment (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=51296).
However, what good is the light if you can't look at it through the good quality glass?
Or celebrate it with a glass of fine wine?
Anyway, the new week topic is the glass.
Windows glass, windshield glass, L glass, wine glass, viewing glasses...
If you think of it, it's all around us.
Which, in fact, makes it a rather difficult subject to shoot, since the vast majority of it is - on purpose - highly transparent, or, in reverse, extremely reflective.
The valid entry should make the glass itself, not what we see through it and not what it's reflecting, the primary subject of the picture.
As always: fresh pictures, moderate post-processing.
For the rest of the basic rules and index please check out this sticky (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=41800).
Let's get some glass! :-) :wink

Those are nice, but... to me they mostly say "car", or "grille", or "headlights" - not "glass" :dunno

but I am enjoying the learning curve with lighting. Glass is a tricky subject. This is not shot with a light tent but instead with 2 RPS fixtures, lightstands, circular 5000k bulbs, one with a covered diffuser.

I'll try this one... I just grabbed the Candle cover and it came to me... Does this work? Or is the glass the ONLY subject?

Hi Nic, I know it's late, but I have had very little time to play with the camera of late. I don't like the blown lighlights at 10 o'clock but here is my attempt

I'm too late to really participate, but thought I'd add this one that I took on my trip. Anyone know what it is?

I realise this is way too late, but as with others above, I've only just really started looking at the various forums (there's a lot to read...)
Anyway, here's my effort at 'Glass' - it's a perfume atomiser.
Hope it fits the idea.

Thank you for your entry!
It's a good shot, yet I think it would be even better (for this assignment, at leaset, if not in general) to have a much tighter crop on the window itself, either in framing, or in PP... IMHO the rest of the image just adds a lot of boring negative space that brings nothing positive to the picture, would you agree? :dunno

Good one, again!
I'd fiddle with the crop a bit, the remnant of the pillar on the left and some stuff on the bottom distract me, but other than that - it's a good glass:-)

This is an extremely heavy bubble glass ashtray I got at a thrift store 20 years ago. I love it, it's gorgeous. Not sure which shot I like better.

Glass experiment with dark field lighting. I think I need a little more room to play with this some and get better control over the light and reflections in the the room. We'll give it another try later.

And since I thought this one required a set-up shot:

I also had an umbrella high to image right to accentuate the metal rings.
