in no way am I denigrating your shot because I think it's pretty neat-
but my guess is that it in no way serves justice to actually seeing this in person-
I'm glad you could capture it-

First night we have been able to see it. Aparently it has dimmed quite a bit from what ive read. Meh...i will die happy now.
The sky was quite blue still & RAW just popped it out more but.. hell..its my comet & i dont care.
Wow this is an AWESOME Shot of YOUR Comet Gus :clap :ivar
Best shot Ive seen of all the posts of the Comets to date !
It's still cloudy as heck here been raining almost 24hrs straight now, but alas we need the rain more than the Comet :D
Congratulations on such a wonderful capture .... Skippy

Wow Gus! That is by the best shot of the comet I have seen. You should send it to APOD (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html). They have been covering it for a week and always have spectacular images of space, but yours is comet king. That tail is amazing! :clap

Gus, great shot. You should submit it as suggested above. You won't lose anything with APOD or www.spaceweather.com (http://www.spaceweather.com). They are both NASA websites. No commercializiation or loss of copyright or anything :-)

Tks christina...looks like cloud again tonight. I am all ready to go here (http://wadjelaphotography.smugmug.com/photos/35423124-L.jpg)to get some more tonight if it clears.
:help:ramboOh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh. I'd FREAK out if all of those bugs were anywhere near me. My friends and family love to joke that I love 2000pd animals (draft horses) but I'm afraid of itty bitty little bugs. :dunno
I actually freak out a bit when I accidentally open a thread by Skippy or Lord V that has a........SPIDER....in it.. Eeeeeeeee. Okay, I'm giving myself the creeps.
I can't wait to see more comet pictures from you. I hope the weather improves and I wish I was able to see the comet. My friend is leaving here, heading to Adelaide on Tuesday. Do you think he'll be able to see it from there?

Good catch, Gus. Sure would fit in with these (http://www.spaceweather.com/comets/gallery_mcnaught_page12.htm). I'm not sure if you give up your copyright there, but might be something to look into.
McNaught wasn't but a tiny spec in the sky here a week ago. Would have needed a 1,000mm lens.

Yeah i eventually sent it to them..meh there are a few thousand similar on the net now the same as it so its not like its a saleable item.
pardonner mon français. Mais vôtre est un enfer de beaucoup
plus intéresser que les la plupart des autres. Tellement ouais,
je pense qu'il a une chance de se vendre.
OK?

Gus, have you seen McNaught's new pics from last nite? Looks like the show is getting better and better.

Did you have any luck last nite?
ian408
Jan-20-2007, 09:49 PM
Maybe..i expect to do a lot better tonight though.
I sent it to that NASA site (which dont reproduce...i read their small print) with my © on it. Maybe thats a way of getting traffic to my site ?
I think it's a way to get folks to your site. Yes.
Looking forward to the next batch...

bugger me Gus....that is totally awesome :D
I reckon it's the best comet shot i have ever seen. Having the city at the bottom of the frame and the jet stream (sp?) of the comet really make the shot.
I'm totally jealous ...and yes u can die...very very happy indeed.

Wonderful Gus, I have never seen one in my life. Great capture. I would also be interested in some basic settings, I have no clue how one starts taking photographs like that! Pretty awesome. I suppose the ancestors looked upon it as coming from Gods, or something in that area. They were more spiritual then we are today, it must have impressed them deeply. It impresses me only to see it on a photograph...Well done!:clap :clap

You are an evil, evil man!:toniI knew, just knew, that you were going to do that. However, I'm gullible as all hell and clicked anyway. I covered my eyes, peaked out of the corner to find the magic red "x" and closed the window.:) (The sad thing is I REALLY did do that.)

beautiful, gus.
My measly comet shots don't even begin to compare!
Great photos, well worth the effort of taking them, even if it means you're a bug magnet.
I too, like the city lights as a backdrop.

I go up them but not with climbing gear. If i cant crawl up it then i dont go.crawling with the goats it is! oh wait, you guys don't have goats, just snakes and bugs, eh? :D
Phyxius
Jan-21-2007, 08:15 PM
Plenty of goats here doc...not in this particular part though. All i saw last night was hundreds of bats (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/71/GreyHeadedFlyingFox.jpg/200px-GreyHeadedFlyingFox.jpg) & canetoads (http://www.neatorama.com/images/2006-03/cane-toad.jpg). The toads give you a fright in the dark as they dont jump but run & when they run near you on dry leaves you get a bit jumpy as this is prime taipan/tiger snake country.
Nice one again! Now, the bats are a bit creepy looking, we've got little tiny ones that chill in the backyard during the summer. And that chubby toad is cute. Sorry to hear you've been nibbled on. I'm slightly allergic to most bites/stings and I know I'd be miserable. Baking soda mixed with water to form a paste really helps ease a sting, I don't know anything for itchy bites though.
I hope the weather behaves again tomorrow. I'm greedy and want more. ;)

Nice one Gus. I also took a few more last nite, but couldn't get the tail at all. Too much light pollution methinks.

Jan-22-2007, 04:39 AM
I saw it!! I saw it with my own two eyes tonight :clap :clap
Myyyyyyyy goodness the tail on that thing is so big, I hope to find it sooner than I did tonight, at least now I know where in the sky to look.
I tried a couple of shots but I sucked at it so hopefully tomorrow I will get to have another go.
Thanks for the info Gus, I'm so happy that I got to see it :D ... Skippy

Gus you are watching something that is out of this world, for sure. Spectacular shots you made.
Several years ago, we got to see the Hale-Bopp comet as it passed over northern hemisphere. Not nearly so impressive, but impressive nonetheless. We had to go way down to SW New Mexico, out in the desert, away from any city lights to get a decent view of the tail. Your comet blows Hale-Bopp into the weeds.

Nice pictures. I believe they will be even better without that writing in the middle.:D
Tks...they certainly are a lot better in huge size without the writting & that view is for me & not the 400 million thieves on the net.
I agree about the internet thives, but the thing is that there are so many great images of that comet that everybody, who wants to steal has a very, very big choice.
Please take a look at the images from the comet discoverer himself http://msowww.anu.edu.au/~rmn/C2006P1new.htm
These are probably the best ones.
or you could look here:

Oh Gus, these are stunning!!
We have had lots of cloud around here in the evening with storms etc so I wasn't able to see it. Then we finally had some really good clear nights and I was stuck in hospital having a baby...lol :rofl
Your captures are the best I've seen....Oh and your photos of Glasshouse made me long to be in QLD again....I have only been through there once on my way to Caloundra and I've been dying to get back ever since.
