New release is up, and should be faster and more reliable than ever. Give it a whirl, and if you're feeling adventurous, join the testing party (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=51791).
If you're feeling historical, here's the thread for RC1 (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=51218), which has links to prior threads.
We're getting really really close now...
Don
There is a known issue currently (as of 1am PST Saturday the 20th), with Safari and pagepicker. It will be fixed sometime Saturday, so no need to report that particular one.
Thanks!

This is weird, may be nothing but thought I'd mention it. I was browsing around the all-time popular gallery on the beta site. I used the picker and jumped to a random page, turned out to be 20. The first image is of a bridge.
Then I jumped around a bit to different pages, and sometimes the bridge shot popped up briefly before the first image on the page did, then it got replaced by the proper image. Doesn't happen all the time, but maybe 10% of the time, and not just with the bridge either. Sometimes when you switch pages the large image on the right will briefly show some other image, then change to the large version of the upper-left thumb.:dunno
No big deal, but odd. I'm on FF and XP. I haven't really been following all the other threads, sorry if this has been mentioned before.
Other than this nitpick I love the new version, the speed is tremendous and it looks nice and clean. You guys have done a great job with this.

DJ,
I got the same thing. I was in popular, far into the pages...20, 30 pages in, and hit previous page to browse backwards, and a picture of a paramedic vehicle kept popping up before the proper image displayed.
Safari.
Oh, and yeah, that pagepicker IS funky in Safari!

I have originals off but the flyout now shows "save photo" and original in size
picker. It wasn't there in RC1.

I can see this too after clicking around in the popular gallery. Eventually some image keeps briefly displaying before the correct image shows.

When do the other styles (like journal) get addressed with the new functionality in the Beta?
Do our standard, power, pro sites automatically transform at some point to the new format? All at once? In stages? For some styles, but not others?
Just curious....especially the "when?" part.

I notice the new changes will 'detect' browser size...So....does that mean I can browse my smugmug on my MotoQ and Windows CE smartfone edition? Perviously I've been bookmarking actual photos on my site, but browsing through galleries was....no. Some styles would load thumbs, but only logged in and then all the style info was displayed out of its selection box as indivdual links. While it would be smokin cool to browse my smugmug on my Q I wouldn't call it absolutely neccesary.

slideshow on BETA? you have to change the actual JS Code, so don't worry about that, on the live site the slideshow hack will pull just fine from your gallery.

tweaked the js to do it. Will the js be replaced for the new release?

I just wanted to say how thrilled I am for whenever this upcoming release becomes finalized. I've been continually visiting people's beta galleries (not enough free time to try my own beta out lately, otherwise I would have) and all of the changes are well needed and great improvements to an already amazing service. All the more reason to move people to the smugmug world!! :) Keep up the great work guys!

That wierdo mouse button issue I talked about in the RC1 thread here (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?p=464187#post464187), has gotten "more interesting" in RC2. The steps to reproduce are the same, just replace step 8 as follows:
8. see #nnnn get appended to url, and nothing change
It behaves the same if you just hit ⌘-← on the keyboard. (which does history navigation for firefox.)
You can actually end up with a url like: http://cabbey.beta.smugmug.net/gallery/376#8477#8476#8476#8476#8476
by going to http://cabbey.beta.smugmug.net/gallery/376#8477
and hitting ⌘-← a few times.
Camino reproduces the same behavior. Safari however, does not.
I've also reproduced this on a mac that doesn't have the logitech mouse software installed.

I think I found a problem that hasn't been mentioned before. The problem exists on this photo http://beta.smugmug.net/popular/today/1/2900 ("Smugmug_Birds_Banner") or any other very small photo. On these small images, I'm unable to get the photo rank pop up box to display. I've replicated this problem on both the latest Safari and Firefox...I'm running OS 10.4.8.
I'm really looking forward to when this gets out of beta!

I guess I'll chime in here, though I admit to not having actually trolled the betas this weekend.
I've noticed several problems with the current code, and I'm hoping they were on the list of things that got fixed in the new stuff (aside from my SiteMeter problems...)
In certain circumstances, which I haven't been able quite to characterize yet, photo pages don't have *any* navigation at the top that will let people back to my home page.
The Home link, for non-logged-in users points to Smug's home, not mine, but I realize that I can customize around that. The lack of crumbtrail seems a more difficult problem.
Additionally, I note that when I'm on a photo page, I cannot get to the Original sized photo *even if I'm logged on*. I'd characterize that as a design decision rather than a big, but I still think it's a lack.

Keep looking, :evil I did, and found this on the Look & Feel (http://www.smugmug.com/help/picture-storage) help page:
Why isn't smugmug small listed as a choice? Because selection between smugmug and smugmug small is provided automatically after we sense the user's monitor size. We serve smugmug small to users who have 800x600 pixel monitors to prevent scrolling, and smugmug to people with 1024x768 and above. It must be getting close to the new release......

Hi All,
Some weird reaction on my site , need help!:cry
Majority (97%) of my galleries in both 'motorcycles' & 'other' are "smugmug gradient" / style: smugmug"
however when you enter any of these, say....
http://rich56k.smugmug.com/gallery/2179682
its OK until you try any of the following:
click on any other thumb, click arrow for next pic, or the cool new 'page dropdown #'s....
as soon as you try any of these you get a blank white (!) screen with only my statcounter # in upper left corner ...eieeeeeee!!:cry :cry
yikes!!!!
help please!!
rich56k
also takes a second for the first gallery page to load...(not so bad til you try to go anywhere from the initial page...)
ps: my 'journal' style galleries are fine , but they're only a small percentage of my galleries....

I realize the Beta is over and this is a little late, but...
I have comments turned off in my galleries. However when I select a style other than "smugmug", I see the "Add Comment" button underneath the picture.
If I click the button I get the comment form to fill out, but submitting the form doesn't actually add the comment.
My expectation is that I wouldn't see the "Add Comment" button at all in a gallery with comments disabled.
Thanks.

Ever since the "SmugMug small" option was removed from the gallery style dropdown, which is what I had set for all my galleries, now my pages are spread out width-wise in my browser instead of staying contained to the width of my header, here's what I mean (http://www.propointmedia.smugmug.com/gallery/2376241#124525263), it's easier to show than to explain....does anyone have a fix or ideas on this. To fix it temporarilly, I just changes to filmstrip or slideshow...but I'd rather have the old "SmugMug small" option back!! Thanks.

galleries have no "customize gallery" options.

Since the beta changes, I've noticed that linking the photo on to boards (such as dgrin and dpreview) no longer shows exif data using IExif.
Also, getting the link for sharing now takes 2 clicks to get to the site. Anyway for it to be shown underneath the photo if linking to ext sites is allowed in customization. You could have a "Share this photo: T S M L O" and right clicking would give the ----.smugmug.com/photos/#####-M.jpg link.
Just a thought as I currently type this in and it is a bit cumbersome.
Thanks,

The files haven't changed. If you are linking Originals (which have exif) then it's still there.

I guess I'm mis-remembering but it seemed that linking to a -S/-M/-L file in the past retained the exif info. If not, that would be greatly appreciated sometime down the road.

You can link the exif, too. In the exif popup box, copy the exif link and post that.
