View Full Version : Keywords bug?

I may have found a bug with the keywords implementation -- or else I'm just confused about how it's supposed to work.

I use keywords to indicate people -- so I might have a keyword "john smith" if John is in the picture. In many cases, I have pictures with keywords:

"john smith" "jane smith"

smugmug seems to be going through (some of?) these pictures and deleting duplicate keywords so it ends up being:

"john smith" "jane "

or something. I assume what it SHOULD be doing is deleting duplicate keywords but respecting the quote marks, which apparently isn't happening.

As a result, (1) my keywords are getting corrupted, and (2) i'm getting keywords other than what I'm intending on the /keywords page.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hmmm... That's interesting. I need to test this scenario to see what's up.

I expanded the help page on keywords last night to show how they're supposed to work:

http://www.smugmug.com/help/keywords-tags

I can see upon re-reading that I didn't do a scenario for double quotes like you had, and the leading numbers sentence is a bit unclear.

One thing you may be seeing is it's only 2/3 of the way through indexing.

If it helps you -- an example of this problem is at:

http://rms.smugmug.com/keyword/alain/1/12034526

that picture's keywords started out as

"pat shapiro" "alain shapiro"

but now it says --

"pat shapiro" "alain

I can't seem to reproduce this bug. I added multiple quoted keywords to this photo: http://onethumb.smugmug.com/keyword/van%20halen

And they all stuck properly.

I then re-added "alain shapiro" to yours, and it also stuck.

It's possible that you caught a side-effect of our indexing process, which should be a one-time event. If so, I apologize. I'll take a closer look and see if maybe that's what it was.

If you're able to duplicate it again, please let me know.

Thanks!
