One of the things I do at this time of year when it's cold and pouring with rain outside is to start sorting through the previous years shots ready to archive them. I hate doing this but it becomes bearable when I make a few finds- shots that for some reason I didn't do anything with.

Here's some from yesterday's sorting.

Thanks Dalantech :)
That's a water measurer (Hydrometra I think) about 10 mm body length. It's about the only pond bug that survives in/on my pond- the fish eat the rest.

:D -I was shooting at Lago de'Averno last year and noticed a steep decline in the mosquitoes when the dragons and damsels were active. Anything that gets into the air at that lake is instantly on the buffet table...

Even damsels and dragons don't survive in my ponds- the fish eat the larvae- the ones I get in my garden come from neighbours ponds.

The flower is actually a weed in my front lawn- the buds start off red but the flowers open yellow ! It's only about 2" tall (the whole plant). Pretty certain it's a member of the lupin family. I rather like it so leave it alone :)

Thanks :)
The iris is in natural light but I darkened the whole picture and then burnt/removed distracting background from it. The flower survived all this without any alterations :)
