Jeff --- Thanks! This is the first and only time I have been to the eastern and southern shores, which are much nicer than the western shore. --- John

Thanks everyone.
Ric and Dbaker, I'm glad you like the first one. I like the feel of it, too. It's the closest I've been able to come to getting the light and atmosphere of these California places in the fall. There were a group of painters (the "California impressionists") who did this very well 100 years ago. For those interested, the Joan Irvine Museum (http://www.irvinemuseum.org/) has very nice rotating exhibits of these paintings in Irvine, CA, very near the San Joaquin Wildlife Refuge. Admission and parking are free--they just want you to see the paintings.

Excellent series, John. Very nice compositions.
As Jeff mentioned, we're thinking of doing a dgrin southwestern meet-up in Feb at the Salton sea. I believe this is a winter destination for many migratory birds, so I'm thinking the next couple of months should be pretty good. Would love to hear any of your thoughts along those lines. Perhaps you'd be interested in joining us.

-joel

Joel --- Thanks very much. I'd be glad to join you all if I can get away for a few days. Regarding the thoughts, I have a Word file with a hodge-podge of info about the Salton Sea--links and posts from various websites that I put together as prep for the November trip. I'd be glad to email a copy to you and anyone else who's interested. Email me at jdc562@aol.com. Regards --- John

Thanks for sharing John, hopefully we'll be able to get together and do some shooting in that area. I've been to the western shore a number of times but never made it to the eastern shore since I'm usually on a schedule when I'm out there and that is a huge lake. By the way, if I had to pick a favorite #3 got my vote:thumb

I saw a full migration of those once many years ago.
Montezuma Wildlife Refuge about 70 miles north from me.
Love to see it again with my camera in hand! :D
