I like the face in the first but the composition in the second. Next time try using some fill flash

Thanks Nick, what is the purpose of Fill flash and why i need to use it? Please clue me in, i'm still learning...:dgrin

Fill flash is when you use your flash to brighten up the shadows. You are not using it as your main light source. Your dog looks a little underexposed against the bright sky, fill flash would have brightened him up a little and also given him a catch light in his eyes. Catch lights just make eyes look more alive. You wouldn't think so but using flash in daylight is often very helpful. Just ask if this didn't make any sense.

I see, ok, my camera has 4 different setting for flash. I now understand what you're talking about. I wasn't sure if Fill was some type of special flash light.. I'll have to check my camera and play with it. Good advice. I actually had to lighten this picture in photoshop, the dog did come out dark.
