Edit: according to a CNN/Money report, DC is #22 on the list of unsafe US cities, below Seattle and Portland. I figured it would have been ranked much worse. St. Louis, Atlanta, and Kansas City are #1-3. On the safest list, San Jose is #1 and NYC is #2. Go figure. The rankings were based on crimes per 1000 citizens in cities with a population of at least 300,000.
