Hello all,
Well the Sun finally broke through the clouds for the first time in weeks today :clap To celebrate the camera and I took a long lunch :rofl First, we went to the spot Ian frequents. Not much happening there and after 30 minutes of mostly walking and little shooting, we headed up the road to the Palo Alto Baylands Preserve. Not much was happening there either. I had steeled myself for a possible shutout:dunno The only wildlfie I saw were little birds and some ground squirrels. I figured I'd shoot the lil birds with the Bigma. At 400-500mm's at least they'd fill some of the frame.

Just like there's no such thing as a bad day of fishing, even though we were pretty well skunked, we had fun together :D On the way out we saw this guy sitting on a lightpole by the airport. He had his head on backwards :rofl

So the trip wasn't a total waste :thumb

I have to do more of those long lunches :lol

IanHi Steve.. great shots.. I love the first and last, the middle one has some little blur thing going on (or is it my dirty monitor, could be). I love bird shots, I think they are quite hard to catch.:clap

Ian,
Thanks :D It was a spur of the moment decision, but I have to admit I was looking for you at the park at the end of San Antonio. Lots of walkers, runners and bikers, but no photographers with big white lenses :rofl

I'd love to get together and I'll contact you next time I get the urge to go birding (or the next time there's a dry day, whichever comes first :lol )

Thanks for looking,
Steve

Thanks Lynn :D

Yeah that little guy in the 2nd shot has some oof blades of grass in front of his lower chest area. I didn't notice them until I was processing the image. So it's not your monitor.

Thanks Ed :D Getting a few nice shots of this guy made it worth having to stand in the middle of the street while shooting him.....lol

The cars did a good job of avoiding me. Probably because I'd make an extremely ugly hood ornament :rofl

Outstanding shot Lynn ^5 :thumb

These guys are soooooo small. I saw one sitting on top of a telephone pole yesterday. But, not matter how I moved around the pole, I could never get more than like 1/2 of him, in the frame. Even at 500mm :dunno

Super shot!! I just love these colorful little guys, with their big eyes and big feet.

Thanks for sharing this shot,
Steve

Thanks Shakey :D I like your tagline about the rule of thirds....lol My sentiments exactly (we don't need no stinkin' rules :lol ) Here I am bitchin and moanin about a little rain and you live in the Great White North. You must think we're pretty spoiled down here.....lol But, I want to tell you that the rain wouldn't bother me 1/2 as much if I had a nice indoor venue to shoot some HOCKEY :wink Like say, the Sharks versus the Flames at the Shark Tank:clap Too bad those millionaires can't get together and make us fans happy :scratch

Logitech Ice. Inside, three rinks. There's a girls tournament coming up.
Lemme know if you're interested and I'll get you the details.

ianI'm in Ian :thumb Let me know when. If it doesn't conflict with one of my son's b-ball games, I'd love to go. I am sooooooo starved for some rink action that I found myself watching Holiday on Ice over the weekend......lol

I don't think you'll have to worry about that. The Board of Governers and the
NHLPA have decided there's no point in meeting. I'm pretty sure the season's
over before it started :(

Steve, the tourney is MLK weekend (1/14-17). Games will be happening on all
three surfaces. The South Rink has the best lighting (Shark's practice ice) followed
by the center and then the North (crappy lighting).

More than likely, each surface will have a photographer on the player's bench
side (low or no glass down the bench). I don't think it will be an issue to shoot
from the glass though I do know the glass is not at all clean.

Thanks Ian :clap

Dirty glass adds to the ambience.....lol So next Friday, Sat and Sunday. For sure, I'll catch one of those days :-)

Thanks again and let me know if you want to go too. They let me into the Tank with my 717 and 828, watch them not let me into Logitech with the 20D :rofl

Hey as long as you don't try and bogart the flashes with your own pocket
wizard, I think you'll be ok :D

I'll probably go for a bit on Saturday or Sunday.

You did very well at capturing a whole lot of detail on that little black birds feathers - not an easy feat!

I love the hawk - love the sunkissed feathers.

Thanks Ann :D

I wish we had some colorful little birds like the ones that visit your feeder. The best I saw were some blackbirds with those red patches where their wings attach to their bodies (redwinged blackbirds?). All the other birds were one shade of brown or another.

Thanks for looking,
Steve
