It snowed last night (tons!) and that means birds. Combine that with a bad cold and I've got something to do this afternoon. I've been trying to learn how to shoot birds and other things while moving and maintaining that sense, so tell me how I did. (I've also not photoshoped them much because, well, I'm sick and that ranks low on priorities.)

1: This shot actually was out of focus by mistake, but it turned out that the camera picked up on the Black Capped bird instead.

2: This is a crop (a large one) because of all the extraneous things. Such as another bird approach.

Great shots - at first glance I thought the bird in the first pic was a grossbeak, but am not so sure anymore. Do you know what species they are - look a bit like my redpolls but have much more red on them.

Nice finch feeder! Had quite a discussion about finch feeders here earlier this week!:D

Thanks for sharing - what about details like shutter and apeture?

I'm not 100 percent sure but they look like house finches to me.

A naturalist told me this is a house finch and it looks like the same bird to me.

I can not for the life of me figure out whether or not they are house finches or purple finches. But the first bird is a Black Capped Chickadee and are impossible to get photos of. They come down for about half a second then take off. Of the hundreds of photos I've gotten only about 5 of them are of Chickadees. Mourning Doves are invading as well, there might be some photos of them because of their slow behavior.

Chickadees are tough, they dont sit still for a second, but... they do tend to approach a feeder the same way a lot. Try prefocusing on the perch the land on a lot and wait for them. Be ready when they land, you will have time for one or two frames tops.

I always prefocus to get birds, otherwise my poor lil C-740 is at it's worst. I'm also getting a tripod from B&H within the week so I should be able to get more shots like these. I'm also wondering about what to buy, a wide angle or a teleconverter for this camera. Since I shoot alot of wildlife and nature rather than landscapes I think the teleconverter would be better suited for me, but I've also read that wide angle can be lots of fun.
