I am quite certain that she will be out ahead of the "play station kids" a little farther down the road of life. Nice to see.

Good to see other involved parents too. Scared by how many of Kiele's playmates I see completely stunned not knowing what to do when there is no TV on.

Nice moment. I also have a 7 year old son who reads constantly. He is reading books like Harry Potter and Moby Dick! Interesting what can happen in a house where TV is not allowed and there is no Playstation. We need more kids like them.:thumb

We have a TV, but no bunny ears or cable, it is there to watch DVD's only. She is more interested in reading. Harry Potter is still out of her range right now though I would not be surprised if I did pick it up for her (book one mind you, not that encyclopedia of a book "Order of the Phoenix") and she read it and understood it.

More sad is the Book It program that they do at her school. They are begging the kids to just read for 15 minutes a day and if they do they get a free pizza. 15 minutes is barely enough time to get comfortable in your chair. Kiele puts in those 15 minutes just on the drive to school. The day I took that snowboarding picture of her she spent 2 hours reading, 1 on the way up the mountain and another hour when we got home after 4 hours of boarding.

James and the Giant Peach is the first "big book" that she has started reading and she seems to be doing good with it. She wants to start reading Series of Unfortunate Events also (a personal favorite).

Sounds so much like my son. He has been caught reading a hidden book under his desk at school. The teacher was at the blackboard teaching math and he had a hidden copy of Treasure Island on his lap. The teacher spoke to my wife about it and they both had a good chuckle about his "naughty" behavior!
