2004's last, 2005's first

Hi folks!

The post title is self-explanatory, but I have to add a few extra words, of course! These photos were quick snaps I've taken during my family reunion on new year's day.

Far from being technical or compositional marvels, I think they are nice, because of the warm feelings they communicate.

Interestingly enough, both shots were taken with the nice & small 50mm f/1.4 wide open. What a really cool lens! I'd never believe I would be using it this much, when I bought it a couple of months ago!

very nice :thumb yes, i too think that my 50 f/1.4 is among my top choices when i reach into my bag o' lenses. the shot of your aunt, really casual, quite warm, and i like it. i'm sure she's pleased with it :D

I agree, thiago. In the first shot, I like how your aunt is reaching across, as if she's about to sweep back the girl's hair. A very loving and tender thing to do.

Very nice work. They seem to capture the personalities as well as the moment which is a hard task to pull off. Ihave the 50mm/1.8 and its my favorite lens for portrait and indoor shots.

Andy: some of your best shots (IMHO) were taken with the 50mm! I also remember more than a couple, like a portrait of Jim's (Shutter) at a (baseball?) game, taken with the 35mm f/1.4L! Special stuff...
Oh, and you're right: both my aunts are very pleased with the photos, I'm glad! About the warmth (color-wise), the camera's auto-WB made the shots a bit too warm, so I removed a bit of it with the WB sliders on ACR. I found it great not to remove all of it, just like, for instance, Ulysses did on some of his very nice shots (ones for which he got harsh comments)!

Sid: that's exactly what was happening on that moment. It was a very warm moment and I felt like I simply *had* to capture it! :-)

Harry: you're right on the money about the 50mm f/1.8! I tried it as well, and only got the f/1.4 because it was dirt cheap (same price of a new f/1.8) *and* in mint condition.
