Yesterday, on the way to the surfers, I spotted this guy in Wadell Creek.
As always, I look forward to your comments.

Great capture - I am amazed at how close some herons seem to permit. I never seem to be able to get within 75-100 yards before they are gone. Even on a boat silently drifting down river by them.
Your image is crisp, sharp and with good color. One minor vetch - the grass stem across the image troubles me slightly and I might have tried to use a shallower depth of field.

Great Shot, how were you able to get so close? Or were you using a very long lens?

Thanks PF! Not sure about the grass blade--perhaps a blur in PS?
I was probably 50-60 yards away standing on a bridge with cars whizzing
by at 60+. Except that a sign expressly forbade it, I could have probably
walked much closer before it flew away.

Herons always live in the muck and have lots of limbs and stuff in the background. Yours is much beter than mine ever are. See???

They're hard to photograph stretched out. But yours is nicely exposed and
focused.
PF, you should see the throw-aways :rofl I always think to myself they'll
look great enlarged--and I just cry when they don't :D

Mine was shot with a 10D and a 100-400. I guess I really do need that longer lens after all. :D :D

Ain't that the truth :rofl I've got DVD's full of "almost" decent heron/egret shots....lol
Ian,
This one is sweet. I like the neck being relaxed. Looks like he's got a beard :lol
Really nice :thumb
