Vegas In January '07 Any Suggestions

Hello Everyone,

I'll be going to Vegas January 4-7, 2007 and I want some suggestions of places or things to photograph at that time of year. What do I look out for and what not to do. It's a relatively short trip as I'll be arriving later in the evening on Thursday and flying out Sunday. So technically I have Friday 5th and Saturday 6th to click away to my hearts content...that is until I go to see Cirque Du Soleil's "O" that evening. So I'm open to anything.....hows the weather in January??? Does it ever cool off in Vegas??

You have many, many possibilities. There's the dry lake bed on BLM land south of town, Death Valley is about two hours NE, and honestly, one of the prettiest sunsets I've ever seen was driving about a half hour north of the city where it's just covered with joshua trees and wide open spaces. There are also sand dunes, etc, etc. A lot of it depends on how far you want to go and how much traffic you want to deal with. There's plenty of cool sites on the strip, if that's your thing too. Just take about ten times more money than you think you need-- Vegas is designed to extract as much money from your wallet as possible (and I'm not talkin' the slots or poker tables-- a six-inch subway sandwich on the strip is ten-bucks!)

I did not mean to sound like one of the "search button nazis". I just wanted to voice my opinion for you to check out those 2 locations. They are great photo locations. The length of your stay and your trip goals will dictate what you actually go do. If photography is your goal, go check them out. Weather will be a factor but I have no clue what it is like there this time of year.

I just found out the inlaws are looking to take a travel nursing assignment in Vegas this coming year. So I know the wife and I will be taking another trip out there. :barbI got to hit most all of my want to sees. Now I get to go back and fill in the blanks. :-) Good luck and have fun.

I went there last year same date range. It was warm during the day and cold at night. I carried a sweater all day because i knew I wouldn't be home before night rolled around. I did everything from Red Rock to the Needle to the Luxor to getting a great view watching planes takeoff and land at the airport to walking across Hoover Dam. If you want a good shot of the stars, stay by Red Rock after they close. If you gamble you can save money by going to the older casinos. And it's probably not worth it doing a timeshare trip. Can't wait to go back especially with my newer camera!

Hello there! Have fun in Vegas! I was only there for 2 nights and stayed at the California hotel. It's like walking into the Twilight Zone. It's full of people from Hawaii! Of course it's got a Hawaiian theme and they serve great Hawaiian dishes! I thought it was an interesting sight to behold! Of course, my favorite hotels to take in some great photos is the Parisian and the Venetian. Both are spectacular as well as the Bellagio. Here's my shots of Las Vegas back in April '06. Wish I had more time there.

I would strongly suggest taking in a Cirque Du Soleil show. 'O' is spectacular but if you didn't buy your ticket 3 months ago you're probably out of luck. But there are other CDS shows around town. Have a ton o fun!
