The summer break is better in Santa Cruz and the winter break favors
Pacifica.

Here are a few from Pacifica.

What beach? Pretty flat today...Pacific (Across from Texaco).

Should be high tide (or there abouts) now. Maybe around 12 or 1 (low tide)
things will pick up.

Ian, I really like the last one. The elements are in a good place, good action, love the odd angle of the surfer's head. Nice crop. I might be tempted to use the Cletus method (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=2478) to brighten the dark bits of the surfer's body.

What lens were you using?

What lens were you using? Thanks! I had such a good time, I might cruise back this afternoon and try
some more shots.

The local web cam (http://www.pedropoint.com/pacificacam/index.shtml) looks a little overcast and the 600mi dopler radar images
show patches of rain. So a day almost like yesterday.

I was shooting with the 500mm.

Thanks Mark!

The water temp is in the low 50's (F) on average. So summer or winter, it's
wet suit weather :D

I knew there was a Pedro Point cam, but lost track of it, so I've bookmarked it now. 500mm, well, that beats my 828 lens. I could get closer to the surf to catch the surfers, I usually sit on the deck at Taco Bell and shoot them. Of course I do have lots of resolution and can crop so much of the photo and still have it look great on the web, LOL! Looks like the surf is better at Rockaway from the report on the pedro point web cam site, but they usually surf even further out. Occasionally they surf in front of the cul-de-sac by Nicks and that gives me a fighting chance. The best way to get them is at the Pier, but they rarely surf there.

Really nice shots Ian :thumb I hope you got a sliver of Sun, if you went shooting, today. We've seen nothing but overcast and rain all day. Maybe, it'll be one of those rare occassions where it's nicer at the beach :wink

This is the 2nd or 3rd time I've seen you post that you used a 500mm lens. Is it the Canon F4.0? Whatever it is, you are getting the most from it :clap
