I would like to get a inexpensive nikon for my daughter. I shoot with a d50 so I can trade out lenses with her.

are you sure we couldn't talk you into a canon?
:rofl:D
just kidding.
have you looked on sites that sell used cameras? look for a good condition D70? my sister has a D70, surely the price has gone down since she got hers. or what about another d50? looks like they've gone down in price considserably? just above $500 it looks like? since you don't have to spend any extra on lenses, why not?
canon rebels are under $500 now :)
good luck!

The D50 is the bottom of the chain before the new D40. You can't get much less expensive than what you have, so if you want to spend the least and get her into an SLR, you pretty much need a D50 or the new D40 (which isn't in stock at most places).
I'd:
Get her a D50. Then you can compare notes on the same camera.
Get her a D40. A little less money, and by all accounts, still a good camera.
Move yourself to a D70/80/200/whatever and hand down your 50 to her.
Get a point and shoot instead.
B&H has the D50/18-55 kit for 630. The D70 body only is 610. Both with the code ("psnov", filter for Nikon)
Pretty good price.

Pretty good price.I don't think you want to get the d40, as there is no focus motor in the body on that one, so swapping lenses will become manual focus on the 40.
