Requesting Advice: Black & White Photos

So Im taking some some photos this weekend of an African American couple. They are requesting black and whites - What color clothing should I suggest they wear? They are med to dark complexion, and in working with my own kids who are mixed, I've run into challenges. My daughter is darker than my son, so I tend to get one over/under exposed.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

You could try putting the lighting on the side of the darker subject, allowing for light falloff to illuminate the lighter subject less, and you may get a natural light balance that way.
