OK Gang, we want to encourage you to vote in the Dgrin Challenges. And hopefully, if you register on the site, and vote, then you'll participate more around the fourm :clap

From now through the end of December 2006, we will be giving away a full copy of Adobe Photoshop CS2 to a Dgrinner chosen at random, from within the voters of the Dgrin Challenges. Rules? Just vote. Each challenge you vote in, will count as an entry.

So register, participate on the forums, the challenges, and VOTE in the challenges.

PS: Mods and SmugMug Staff NOT Eligible.

If you all recall, I solicited for some ideas in the 77 voting thread. Manfr3d suggested t-shirts, which I passed on, and Andy decided on Photoshop!

So what do we think, 200, 300 voters for the next challenge (170 this last time)??? :evil

Well, one difference is that the $40 is given away every two weeks, and CS2 will be given away once this year.

Ditto. It also adds to the competition if many people vote, so I really think this is a great idea!

As nice as CS2 would be, I don't think giving that kind of a prize to a voter, and not to a challenge winner is really the way to go.

I have participated in the challenges, and voted. I have voted more than I have participated since I don't always have the time to shoot. Voting is easy. If I'm on line I try to vote. I think a better solution would be to give a copy of CS2 to someone who votes, and has participated in at least one challenge. They don't need to be selected for the top ten, just enter.

That way we encourge participating in the challenges, and the voting. Just a thought.

As already mentioned above, we give away $40 to the winner of each challenge (biweekly). This is a one-time extra "prize" with the aim of stimulating challenge awareness in general. It was posted as a dgrin-wide announcement, so people who may not have even looked at the challenge forum before, might do so now. It will certainly attract voters, but it should also stimulate entries and general participation as well.

I think it is a great idea - and generous too. I'd be thrilled to win because I don't own CS. However, if you already own it and win the lottery, why not give it to a friend or struggling photographer you know? Good publicity for SmugMug/dGrin and a few pay in forward points for you!

Virginia

P.S. Awais, I too am surprised that someone who gives such great feedback hasn't been voting. But I know that it can be hard to choose between a lot of excellent photos, each with a different approach to the challenge theme. DoctorIt is right. Just vote for the picture that you like best. You don't have to agree with everyone else. Remember that each photographer in the top ten appreicates and is encouraged by a vote for his or her picture, even if (maybe especially if) it doesn't win.

Head on over to the Photo Challenges forum (http://www.dgrin.com/forumdisplay.php?f=7), and maybe read all about the challenges (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=6941). The current challenge, 79-Waiting (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=48203), will end this coming Monday Dec 11. Look for a new voting thread to show up then. It will be stuck at the top of the forum, you can't miss it. Hey Andy, David! I've been... caught up in reality. :rolleyes Also had a bit of a block along the way. Though after I recently got my hands on a new Canon 70-200mm 4L USM lens I've found it all coming back again. I suppose I felt I couldn't do what I wanted to do with the standard lens I got with my 30D this summer... and I lost a lot of time to take pictures since winter because of work. It's always dark when I can take pictures, can never get good lighting without a hassle, blah blah. ;) I guess I'm gonna have to stop whining and just take pictures. :D

Good to come back again. This place really is a great motivator!

It's really odd to hear you say that. Take a look at your gallery. Stuff you shot with a little point and shoot. You never let your limitations stand in your way then. Why now?

What happened to college?

I'd suggest you join the photo a day group, either formally or informally, just shoot something every day. I'd suggest it, but then I'd be a hypocrite, since I've never come close to that. :D But it might get you unstuck, like writing in a journal every day can get a writer unstuck.

In any case, I really look forward to seeing more of your work, and to seeing more of you around here.

I suppose I had expectations that were much too high and I burned out when I couldn't get things right. I just didn't have the right equipment at the time. And... as for school, I'm getting my general credits cheap at a community college before I go off to spend far too much money on an art school. Why must they be so expensive! :scratch
