Upgrading to Pro

I signed up my brother for a gift account and I was wondering if I upgrade to a Pro account will the $10.00 referal be applied to the upgrade or to my renewal next year?

I was also wondering if I can upgrade my brothers account to Power user with out entering My Credit card info on his account.

I signed up my brother for a gift account and I was wondering if I upgrade to a Pro account will the $10.00 referal be applied to the upgrade or to my renewal next year?
The latter. Referrals can be used for annual renewals and for gifts, but they don't
happen to apply at the time of an upgrade. The reason is upgrades end up
being all kinds of different prices depending on how far in your year you
are.

So if you were standard and upgraded to power, you'd be charged whatever the
difference in standard and power is for however many days are left until you
renew. Then, when you renew, your referrals will apply to your power
account.
