my boyfriend mentioned a while ago that he'd really like a LOMO. he's not mych of a photograher, so i want to get his one for christma to sort of push him along.

went i went on ebay and searched LOMO, an ARGUS C3 Rangefinder came up and i bought it.

it's not a real LOMO, is it?

like when he opens it, i can't say "IT'S A LOMO SWEET MONKEY!", can i?

please could i get some insight here?

i feel funny because i am a photographer (formerly professional), but i'm used to me sony f717.

i just hope i got some variation of the LOMO brand.

it takes cool shots whatever it is. he'll apreciate that.

but still, if anyone can give me like a "6 degrees of an ARGUS C3" in relation to a LOMO, i'd like that.

I'm just reading about it for the first time this morning, but I would think that based on LOMO principles (shoot from the hip), a rangefinder isn't really true to that? Yes/no? The "first" lomo cam was fully automatic, am I reading that history right?

it's like a LOMO in that you cn shoot from the hip, and experimental photo taking yields the best results. it's unlike the Holga in that it uses regular 35mm film.

the first LOMO might have been fully automatic (although i think it originated in 1942. would that have been possible?i don't do well with history.) but you can buy more recent ones that are manual.

this sucks. i just with someone would tell me that the Argus is manufactured under the LOMO brand.

The Argus C3 is not such a bad camera. It looks cool and very old fashioned (IMHO). It has an OK lens and a horrible advance mechanism (IMHO).

Your boyfriend should love it and you for buying him this wonderful classic camera.

If not, trade up one or the other! :rofl

after spending the day researching the Argus instead of actually working, I've become much more impressed by it. the LOMO is slowly becoming a hipster staple, but the Argus has a great history, too. and the example shots i've seen are gorgeous.

maybe i'll keep it for myself, and get the boy a LOMO.

the LOMO is indeed for the hipster set. they sell it at urban outfitters.

god damn it.

it's cool, though. i'm nixing the LOMO for a Holga. it's cheaper. and i'm giving the Argus to my dad.
