I took a quick trip to Sedona and Oak Creek this weekend with a buddy looking to get some Sedona red rocks and some fall foliage shots. Unfortunatley the rocks are only good to shoot at sunrise or sunset and all the good spots are a bit of a drive and hike from each other. The lighting was pretty dead due to no clouds, that is until 9pm at night when it starts raining with a mix of sleet and hail. It was a cold night!

Wow, some really nice shots of some beautiful places!

Love the 2nd shot and the second to last. (Did you happen to take any of those two with a slower shutter speed? I :lust the slow water over rocks and those two would look great like that. Though the more I think about it that second to last one should be just as it is.

The ones of Devil's Bridge is also great.

The second shot in the second post is also quite nice (excellent detail inthe foreground and background images) and I really like the other two "stream" shots.

The slow moving water down the bricks, onto rocks with all the leaves? Looks a little blue to me and the OOF leaves in the front, right distract me abit.

Really nice job though and thanks for posting!!

Really nice. I used to live in AZ, wish I still did, and Oak Creek Canyon was one of my favorite places. I can well imagine that it is not its best when it's raining with sleet mixed in, but when the sun hits the red-rocks -- WOW! It can be real pretty with fresh snow too. My Wife always liked to stop down the road at Montezuma's Castle, which I have to admit I also found interesting. Anyway, your photos brought back some fond memories, thanks for sharing.

Glad to bring some memories back for you. I hope to go back when there is some snow on the rocks.

Thanks for the comments and the feedback.

The color is a little blue in the one stream shot, unfortunatley the water wasn't moving that slow, so I will adjust a bit in post process.

Thanks Joel!

I was wondering if you made it out or not. When you go plan to spend a whole day or weekend to really be able to see everything. The cheapest place to rent a jeep is at the airport but they only have two so plan ahead. They were already gone the weekend I went up there.:cry

Looks nice! Too bad the sky was washed out on Saturday. I was going to try to come out Sunday, but after loading bricks all day Friday, then going to Tonto on Saturday, I was wiped out :)

Did you go on the Broken Arrow 4wd trail (where all the Pink jeeps go)?

Moving Bricks and Hiking Tonto is a bit of a workout. We never did any real 4wheeling. The decent priced jeeps where already gone and my 2wd toyota is not the most capable at climbing rocks.
We travelled a few back roads and then hiked into areas via trails.
Cathederal Rocks Trail
Bell Rock
Devils Bridge
Slide Rock
Several Spots along Oak Creek
That was pretty much it but only had Saturday and Sunday morning to work with.

I'm moving out to the Phoenix area in early January, however, I've made several trips out there in the past months. One of the trips included a trip up to Sedona. Such a beautiful area - I definitely need to go back there and spend more time hiking and taking pictures.

Excellent set of photos, makes me even more anxious to move.
