The college I work at hosted a basketball tournament for Deaf players from around Southern and Central California. I stopped by my local dealer and picked up a used EF 85mm f/1.8 just for the occasion.

I love the lens--and it's working fine--but I'm not crazy about the photos. I'm still new to SLRs; I haven't shot one in five years, so I make a lot of mistakes like leaving it on program instead of running the shutter speed up on aperature priority. I don't know if it's the slow shutter speed (160 - 200) or the odd color or what. ISO was 800 and I cropped and processed with my iPhoto program. I haven't experimented with shooting RAW yet; everything was shot compressed as jpeg in the camera, a Rebel XTi.

Any feedback, C&C welcomed.

OK... not trying to be a jerk, but I noticed in a few of the pics that the ref has his whistle in his mouth. Do the players respond to this???

You're not being a jerk. . . . I debated even mentioning they are deaf. :D Many Deaf people can hear something, particularly something as loud as a whistle. I can tell you this: the refs do a lot of arm waving, too. The players communicate a great deal, too. If a player hears nothing, he's clued in by the movement, or lack thereof, around him, or by a teammate.
