Thanks to a neat trade with Mr. Peas (thnx, Joel!) I now have a cool 50mm lens to play with. Here are some shots from today...

Our neighbor's son posed for me (I asked him to look serious)~

Great shots!

Is this the el-cheapo f1.8 50mm, aka "the plastic wonder"?

If yes, you are in good company.
I also love this lens! I think it is my most used one, and it gives incredible results on my 350D, even wide open at f1.8.
Autofocus is always spot on, sharpness an colour are incredible.

I think this should be the kit lens! :)

Very nice. You captured the 'boy' look.
I have that lens also. It takes good pictures and it's light to carry around.

Thanks for your comments, everyone! Hmmm...the "el cheapo plastic wonder"? Never heard that one before :rolleyes , but it is a super small and light, F1.8, 50mm II lens and it works great, LOL! Maybe I'll call mine the "plastic fantastic wonder"!
Cheers,
~Nee :)

I think the most flattering name that I've heard for it is the Thrifty Fifty. Undoubtedly a very nice lens to have for the money. :thumb

The Thrifty Fifty? I like it!!! Thanks everyone. I'm enjoying it a lot (well, when I can find some spare time to go shooting, that is). It's definitely a LOT sharper than my other (more expensive) zoom lenses. I can see why going prime is a really good thing...if only I had the money to do it across the board and had a healthy Sherpa to carry my camera bag, LOL! I love how light the 50 is. Takes some getting used to after using zooms most of my life. Now I'm the one that has to move forward and back to compose the shot instead of zooming in and out. But it also makes me more careful with my framing. Both of these pics are uncropped shots pretty much straight out the camera...only resized and sharpened. I esp. love the speed and sharpness of the lens...and the lesser amount of noise because I can use lower ISOs and faster shutter speeds. I'll definitely be keeping it around~ :D

Mine sounds like there's a bee buzzing inside the lens when it autofocuses. :rofl
