View Full Version : Assignment #12: Orange

OK, enough with Frames (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=44822)!
With the Halloween just around the corner and leaves turning, I think everybody would have plenty of chances to shoot our next subject: orange.
Pumpkin patches, orange groves, even sunsets - just have your pick and make a click!
As always: fresh pictures only, no massive PS compositing, etc.
For the rest of the basic rules and index please check out this sticky (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=41800).
Let's get orange!
PS. Sorry for the short notice, Friday was very busy at work...

Not fresh, but here are about 88,000 people dressed in orange at the Georgia Tech vs. Clemson football game from Death Valley in Clemson, SC two weeks ago. Unfortunately, I was wearing GT gold and Clemson whipped my team good that night. BUT, that was a LOT of orange.

The best photo is the last one where I hold the fruit. Straight flash.
Tomorrow I hope to be able to do something better.:D

Hi Nikolai.
That was as a matter of fact an orange. :D
It is rather lemnonish (lemon colored) because it's very early in the year.
There are oranges in Portugal but many are imported from Spain or Israel.
Anyway those pics of mines were a flop.:scratch

You see, orange is my favourite colour, so I didn't want to miss out on this exercise too. I bought some seedless persimmons - so delicious! I cut one in half.
Anyway, I did several adjustment layers on this one and made the dark bits much redder so they stand out more.

Nice colors indeed! :thumb
As to the focus: shorter shutter speed and narrower aperture would help. But so would a better lens and/or steadier hand (or a good tripod) :wink

Hmm... I had it on f4.0 to keep the background blurry. Was that the wrong thing to do? The exposure was for .0015secs - the camera picked that since I was in Av mode. A tripod is always a good idea, but the wind was blowing as well, so it wouldn't have helped much.
Now about your crack at my lens...are those fighting words? :rambo You don't like the Cannon EF240105mm f/4L IS? Or is it that you just don't like Cannon :wink Or did my husband pawn off a substandard lens and keep the better one for himself? Just wondering....

f/4 is fairly open and you shot it from a close distance, hance fairly shallow DOF.
EF 24-105/4L IS USM is a fine, fine lens. But yet again, it's only f/4, hence shooting wide open is subpar, you would need to close it down to f/8 to reach its "sweet spot".
