Dog MUCH better than before! this time boy doesn't work - not a bad idea, I'm a big fan of cropping tight, but if you're going to do that the eyes need to be sharp.

I agree. I like the idea of coming way in close on the face, but when you do that you're essentially saying "come inside...see what they are thinking" and if the eyes aren't sharp, it's hard to get inside. Unless there's a really good artistic reason to leave them soft, I think they lose a lot of life if they're not tack-sharp--especially at that distance.
