I love fly fishing! October has got to be my favorite time of the year to get out and pursue my two favorite hobbies... Fly fishing and photography. This year I spent a few days camping and fishing on some of Idaho's blue Ribbon trout streams. First stop was the South Fork of the Snake River, near Swan Valley.

We spent one day drifting down the South Fork in our pontoon boats and fishing along 9 miles of heaven.

Fishing was good and there were lots of these along the way.

Floating down the river also gave us the opportunity to sneak up on some wildlife that we might not otherwise have seen from the road.

One last cast on the South Fork, and then it's off to Sun Valley and the Big Wood River.

The Big Wood is one of my favorite rivers in the fall! Lots of great colors and solitude.

The Mayflies were hatching.

And the fish were biting.

The next morning we decided to get up early and try the world famous Silver Creek. This was what we woke up to. . .

You know what they say... red sky in morning, fish take warning! :D

This was one of the many Brown Trout that came out to play that day... and was released after a quick picture. . .

those are absolutely stunning shots...I like trout fishing, but have never mastered the art of fly fishing and I love photography, but I have not come close to mastering that. You appear to be a master of both...I am very jealous.

Beautiful images. I like the second one with the waterfall especially.
I've been through Hell's Canyon of the Snake River, so I know that's a special part of the world. I'm glad you had a great trip.

Wonderful photos of my favorite sport.
I have fished all over the West, but only the Henry's Fork in Idaho. Looks like you have a few other streams I should try!
p.s. is that a Green Drake on your Sage grip? Seems a bit late for those, but it's way too big for a BWO.

Thanks! Next time you are heading out to Idaho feel free to contact me for more info. As for the fly on the grip... I think it may have been the large Mayfly known as the Red Quill. It was probably a size 10 or 12. I didn't see many of them, but they sure stood out on the water when I did see them. FYI, it was the Baetis (BWO) hatch that ruled on all of the water I fished on this trip.

Great series.
Aspens in the fall in the mountains are just glorius. Absolutely glorious. Maples are beatiful, but aspens are glorious.
I was too early this fall for the aspen color change. I won't do that again.

Nice shots. :wink I'm going down to Idaho next summer for a wedding and of course I'll be bringing my rods. Now I can't wait. I can find bigger mountains, bigger waterfalls, and bigger fish without venturing that far, but there's something special about those rivers and fish. Thanks for the glimpse...
oh and, what flies were working? :poke

Besides beautiful pictures...I must add this is definately one of the things I want to do before I depart this earth...I wanna go fly fishing, or at least go fishing in water as beautiful as this. Ok so maybe you're not fly fishing - but nonetheless - this looks fun. :ivar

I've been on dgrin for a few months and this is my first visit to the Journeys thread. I'm dumbfounded. I'm not a fisher, but a former musky widow so I know your captures of the fish are serendipitous! You've ALMOST inspired me to go fishing with my ex again. LOL
And that pic of the eagle, no one has mentioned it yet but it completely took me by surprise...and then the next 3 after that were spectacular too.
Andy said it......each one is a masterpiece.

To be sure, fishing for musky isn't really fishing...it's sitting in a boat for 12 hours in really bad weather.
