some of my friends have seen this photo before, it was taken in january of this year, it's the hudson river about 35 miles north of manhattan, and it's the view from my train station as i get on the train in the morning and off the train in the evening as i come and go in and out of new york city.

there are some more winter landscapes in this gallery (http://www.moonriverphotography.com/gallery/43710/1/2285858)
on saturday morning, my wife looked at one wall of the house, and she noticed that i had swapped out a 16x20 fall scene of the hudson river with the above winter scene - she asked why, and i said, well, it's winter!
anyhow, what also reminded me of this photo was the fact that it was -10 degrees farenheit when i took the pic, and it was the same temps here this morning as i was waiting for my train :D i also thought it would be a good chance to talk about winter photography tips (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=3167&highlight=winter+photography+tips) and if you have anything to add to that thread, please do.
enjoy (winter) photography,

Winter sucks. Move to Florida. Then you won't freeze your butt off trying to take pics in sub zero weather.http://dgrin.com/images/smilies/lol8.gif

Harry - you beat me to it - I was going to suggest shooting in southern Arizona or New Mexico for winter photography. :roll Or maybe Laguna Madre in Texas.
It is not snowing here yet, but it may in the next few days - Here is a scene from last winter....

Just to show Harry what he is missing while shooting those poor birds in those nice warm bird sanctuaries. :D

I love that photo!
Yesterday, we had a beautiful morning - it has been unseasonably warm, and I was thinking it might be a good day for some outdoors photography. After soccer, had some housework to do first - well, the most outrageous storm blew in - wind gusts of 100kph and, believe this - hail! :scratch I've never seen hail in December!Alot of wind damage and some poor soul who was , believe it or not :dunno , windsurfing on a frozen lake, was killed. By 2 a.m. this morning, the temperature had changed by 20 degrees - plus 4 to minus 16 C and we had about 4 cm of fresh snow!
So much for outdoors photography!

Let me see, what do I choose. After going to my doctor, in a light coat, for antibiotics for a deathly sinus infection that keeps me pretty much immobile.
After doing that, picking up the prescription, I had my husband stop at Shem Creek for a sec, so I could take a very few photos since the water was as smooth as I have ever seen it. Two hours later I came back to the car.
It was 32 degrees at that point, and it is in the twenties now. This IS the south, and I have heard about Florida, t'aint that warm there either.
Makes for clear shooting weather. This is the actual sunset, I am up on the bridge, very exposed................does it look cold, it was.

If you just won't move to a place with a decent climate (i.e. Florida) then you must dress for the winter weather. Below is Mr. Williams in his winter shooting outfit. Note the very silly hat.:smile6

Many years ago, I went to Chicago for a tradeshow--at Thanksgiving. Being from
California, I have no idea what cold really is--after a day in McCormick Place with
the roll up doors open and that lovely lake 'breeze'...I'm with Harry. Move to FL :D
