I used to love watching the colorful male cardinals and blue jays cavort in the snow in my backyard.

Out here in California we do have a "western jay" that is not quite as colorful but has a lot of blue. We have doves, red winged blackbirds, starlings, and some little sparrows and wren type birds, crows, ravens and vultures (in Fremont there's a tree near the office we call the Vulture tree) and I see hawks, especially near Half Moon Bay.

My daughter has a bird feeder and it's fun watching the birds fight over the easy food supply.
