I am selling these on ebay and they are very tiny just wondering if you guys think the pics turned out ok. i am not used to photing tiny things

any suggestion on how to make them better would be helpful

Light more from the side and much softer is my suggestion

what is that it look COOL It is an ivory letter opener. In that shot I was just using the DimageX digicam so I softened the flash by holding tissue in front of the flash. (not in front of the lens) Side lighting would have been much better.

There are a couple of cool items on http://www.iisc.com/art_antiques/antiques.html . The shield and the lock are probably 13th century.

First off, it appears that the wood background is in focus, not the object. Gotta watch those autofocus thingies. You may want to put it on a tripod, if it's not already, and if it won't focus on the object, switch to manual. Secondly, the dark portion of the frame at the bottom is from either the lens or the lens hood blocking the flash. If you are using the built-in flash, you may want to switch to an external unit, or remove the lens hood if there is one. See what it looks like after that. You can fine tune the lighting later, but focus is the biggest problem at this point.

I would photograph an object like that on a white or complimentary
color background. If the background is large enough, it will help reflect
the light.

What fish said about focus. Use a solid color background should help
with that.

April, if you don't have lighting gear, maybe you can set it on a surface near a window. That will give you light coming from the side, especially on a sunny day. Just don't let direct sunlight hit it, that would be too bright.

I will try putting in the winow and taking pic of item on solid background, i will come up with something. when I do I will post a pic to see the difference. Thanks GUYS AND GIRLS :)
