My first post on the forums. I was intrigued by this effect so I OOB'd this pic I took a couple weeks ago of a frolicky duck.

Way cool technique, thanx for the tutorial!:ivar

Very nice first effort. I like the colors in the gradient that you chose. They match the picture well. Next step would be gaussian blur on the drop shadow and then maybe some shading on the frame under the arms. Keep up the good work :D

Hi everyone! My name's Debbie and I just found this forum earlier tonight. I've enjoyed going through the pages and pages of OOB pictures in this thread. Last month, I found a link to the tutorial that Serator wrote and tried OOB for the first time. It's fun to find so many other people that enjoy it too!:barb

Here's my first attempt at it:

And here are a couple more:

and

It's close to midnight here, but you all have me tempted to start a new OOB project! But I'll be good and head for bed. I look forward to searching the other forums here soon.

PS:
Serator, thanks for the great tutorial. It was very easy to follow and the screen shots helped so much. I know you must have put a lot of work into it and I really appreciate you making it available. :thumb :thumb

Thanks Skippy and Serrator! These were a lot of fun, but I could do much with them, because I only have Photoshop Elements 5.0 Limited Edition.

I was fine with most of the tutorial until I got to the frame perspective. My distorting options don't let me move the frame at different angles, so I just rotated it a few degrees. I'd love to be able to lay the frame down flatter or more extreme styles, like the warped ones with curves.

Does anyone know of a plug-in for the 5.0 Limited Edition so I could get this function?

I spent a few hours browsing this thread on OOB's & fell in love with the images. I had to learn how to do it. Since I am kinda new to photoshop I Spent some hours trying to figure it out. Once ya get it, it becomes easier. then ya wanna try getting more creative. I have PS 7.0 so I cannot warp the edges on my pic frames, so ya kinda work around that. Here's a few Ive done so far. Definately, I think I've lost some weight, LOL It is a fun technique and very addicting. I am finding myself looking at photo's a different way now. "What can I OOB in this Pic". This technique has shown me a lot about how to work layers etc. Eye opening education. Thanx

Well I read this and kept reading this ... I tried it .... I'm addicted to it.

I am be no means as good at this as you guys are, but I'm working on it.

Some day I'll be able to afford an expensive camera and get the incredible images ya'll do, but for now I'm doing the best I can with my little point and shoot.

Here's two I put together for fun and the experience:

The first one (leaf and water drop) is a DOF shot I tried to get the 3D effect.

MrParts
Jun-25-2007, 07:23 PM
The second one (Stealth Bomber) is a toy that actually flies! It hangs from a string from the cieling and goes around in a circle under it's own power.

Jun-25-2007, 09:14 PM
MrParts, you are off to a great start in your OOB adventure! It really doesn't take a high dollar camera to create great OOB's, just a little creativity and the willingness to do them. Yours look fabulous to me...maybe just a little shading work attention but still great.

Knowing nothing about layers and not having Photoshop I thought I'd just see if I could follow simple instructions from Serrator's tutorial. Well, I'm not so old that I can't do that yet anyways. :D OOB'd my son-in-law on a local go-kart track. Not perfect but I was pleased that I could even do it with Photoshop Elements 4. Had to download a couple of plug-ins and luckily they worked. Quite fun to mess with. Really enjoy looking at all the creative content in this thread. Thanks Serrator!

Thanks! The wheel was all sorts of messed up lol.. There was tall grass covering the entire front tire and I tried to salvage it with the clone stamp and the front was hidden in a rut so with my eyes about to bleed from staring at the screen so long, I decided to cut it completely out, I might fix it later though.

I did "add noise" instead of the typical gradient. Did it with masks so I can just slide in the next pic to do the whole bowling team, just cutout the leg and I can do additional team members in 15 minutes.

Here are a couple of my latest:

Super work ... thanks for sharing and the tutorial...

I tried my hand at OOB and had a couple of questions...

1) Do you guys use a mouse or one of those wacom pens? It would seem to be quite tedious to outline certain subjects with a mouse.

2) In your tutorial, on page 21, when you paint over, you can see the background with the gradient. However, when I tried this, the entire background got erased. Is there any other setting in the gradient toolbar that I am supposed to set (i.e. do i set the 'mode' to 'normal' or 'clear')?

3) I also have a tough time getting the drop shadow behind the layer mask. When I try and select with the magic wand tool, it seems that I did not paint over the entire background... it is not a clean selection...

I've been away from this site for awhile and what a thread to come back to. I've read it from start to finish. :D

All I can say is WOW!!! :bow and roll on winter so that when the weather is horrid outside I can try and do some OOB at least half as good as the ones posted so far.

Ok, so I spent the afternoon trying this. This is my second attempt, what do you think? I know I could have spent more time working on the pixles. I so respect you guys and all the time I know it takes to get the wonderful OOBs you have. :bow

This is a very cool thread, and fun. Here are a couple attempts I have done and still need a lot of practice.

Question: Are there any secrets to getting the crisp lines on the photo outside the frame? A lot of these other examples don't have any blurs in their lines like on some parts of mine. Is there an easier way to do it then just using the brush?

Cuban, if that's a first attempt you have a bright future spending endless, nonproductive hours on these OOBs.:D Nice job.
