Went for a hike about half an hours drive away today in a Sub-Tropical Rainforest. The temp is great...pretty well constantly at 18-22c (64-72f)

Set the camera on auto & really stuffed a lot of shots. The forest floor was so amazing but now i realize that the camera thought i needed more light & washed so many shots out (yer yer yer...photography 101, i can lift heavy stuff though).

The moss & lichens created a deep green glow that needed manual settings. Will try again in 2 weeks time.

Anyway here is the link...plenty of fungii for Fish & even some of gods critters on the last page for Lynnma (a doe & joey Red Legged Pademelon...he is too big for her pouch but still stops in for some milk) & a scrub turkey.

Here they are...

Excellent shots. How badly washed out are the bad ones? You might be able to save them in PS.

Most of the tree shots on my smugmug pages. You would have to see the forest floor to realise the difference. Hell...100 photos of trees...what have i become ?

This is what i mean waxy....you would have had trouble reading a book next to this tree....just a deep green sort of glow all about.

It washed out big time. I know it may be able to be played with in P/S but i think its time to get serious with the manual settings.

I'm at work and actually working! When I get home early tomorrow morning I'll see if my meager PS skills make a difference. I saw some of the other shots... but many seemed to have at least one highlight that was blownout, and thus impossible to save I reckon.) But surely this one can be manipulated into something resembling what you saw. :dunno Give me about 10-12 hours. :D

There's something about the perspective on this one that I really like.

Your close to the money there Greaper...good work.

Hey waxy ...dont waste any time in P/S. Im not worried about the photos at all. Hell its only 30 min drive to over 80,000 acres of this stuff with maybe 200 miles of walking tracks..& over 500 waterfalls.

My point is that i should start to use the manual settings to capture what i see. I have always relied on the rear camera screen to show me what quality of photo i just took.

Its a great spot ian....everyone is sitting in the shade waiting for a bit more breeze. The para boys go first then the birdmen.

i make that mistake over and over again. Just last week I spent 3 hours in the freezing cold, shooting the city skyline with traffic trails, and also a diner. Alomst every blasted one of them is under exposed. All on manual settings. I'm an idiot. The sooner I learn how to do it right, the sooner I can put myself out of my misery.

lovely pics, I could just feel the damp heat. Do you use your histogram (I'm assuming you have one) on your camera. I check the histogram every time I take a shot to see if it's exposed right... I think it's an amazing tool, someone on this forum gave me the link, may have been Charles but here it is.

it was called "Understanding Histograms" can't bloody find it now... maybe you can.
Good on yer mate.
