I have just noticed this recently, perhaps because I am more engaged with photogaphy forums, but it seems that some of my images with rich vibrant color are turning out a little flat and washed out when uploaded to Smugmug. Is it me? Is it Smugmug? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Do you know if you are shooting in the Adobe RGB color space? If so, you'll want to convert to sRGB prior to upload. Most web browsers, unlike many photo applications, are not "color space aware", and will display Adobe RGB files as a bit flat or washed out.
From smugmug help:

What program are you viewing them with on your computer? What kind of camera are you using? If you post a link to a photo that might also help determine the problem.
