On the first day of school me and my friend Mills took some shots. Tell me what you think. They seem to be coming out more blurry than I would like but that is more my lack of skill with resizing pictures on the photo programs correctly.
Thanks for any C&C.

1, 3, 5 are stunning. In 3 the eyes are amazing and in 5 the lighting and her hair really work well together. Great pics and great subject to work with.

these are good and the model looks good, but i would love to see you work with a model with clear skin. i feel like i'm overwhelmed by the freckles.

#5 by far my favorite. Great photos as always.

I think #4 would work bettter if it was cropped at the knees.

5 is awesome

i love the eyes in number three...although my eye is drawn to the nose piercing rather than your eyes which should be the focus imo. i'd love to see #1 in color too...im betting you could make those gorgeous green eyes really come off the screen with a small bit of post processing.

these portraits are pretty cool :thumb

Meanwhile, beware of this lack of light on the legs... it seems "disbalanced".

Last one is very nice, though you should be more handy about colors: her (well, what's the word...) "skin dots" almost look like a disease on this one :D

Thanks for all your comments.
Dragon- I laughed when I read your comment. Mills has a sense of humor and when I sent her the pictures she said she loved them all except for that one because it looked like she was on the tiolet.
So, I tried cropping in a similar one- just to mix it up for you and it worked well.
GPP- I don't know what it is with me but I like giving her green eyes when she doesn't really have them. Her eyes are usually a really dark brown and I lighten them up and change them so I can better see the play of light on them- but here is that color version.
I still working with the sharpening thing. Does anyone have a tip for that?
Antoine- Thank you for your comment. My mother pointed it out on another picture that I didn't use- I have tried taking out the most offending freckles and it looks better, its not posted but trust me. Thanks.
And Barry- Quiet offended really. Not a freckles type of person? My, we will never get along now will we ;) People are drawn to the same, I guess. But yes I will try to show some other models- Mills might be getting annoyed of me anyway.
Thanks again.
Ashley

feckles are the sexiest. thing. ever. :lust (which puts mills waaaaay up there in that catagory hah!)

ok, enough of that.

well, you had me fooled with the eyes...good job. i thought for sure they were green. I like #1 better in color for sure. the saturation is perfect (to my inexperienced eye, at least) and the lighting is quite nice.

2 seems a bit out of focus and several parts of her shirt are blown...so it looks like a tad overexposed.

oohhh and you took out the piercing...well...it would probably be ok for those two, it was just on the one i mentioned earlier that it was a tad distracting.

Ashley,

I have to say I love the confidence that Mills projects! Growing up as a freckle faced kid myself I know how tough it can be to endure all the teasing and such (not always mean but teasing none-the-less) Mills is definitely working her look & doing it with style!

Nice set :thumb

I have got to remember this one the next time somebody teases me about my freckles!

What GP said. Ain't nuffin (argh listening too country music makes me talk like that (and no that isn't my normal listening prefference but checking audio tracks on a cd for the groom for the wedding I'm shooting tonight)) wrong with freckles.

Ok both those new shots are good and you are deffinatley good with changing eye colors. :thumb

On the second shot of the new batch. It is deffinatley better than #5 of the first set. However what killed the shot for me wasn't the "sur la toilette" look so much as her legs. From the angle, the way she was sitting, and the lighting, the legs don't look right. If you look at just the top half above the knees you see a very pretty young woman, if you look at just the bottom half below the knees you see an old womans legs (just finished a bikini calendar so I had to spend alot of time paying attention to details like specific limbs and what not (If I here one more "my boob's don't look even in that shot" or "Why's there a bulge there?" Imma scream)) and that makes it look weird. Which is really just a matter of positioning and lighting that gave that affect.

feckles are the sexiest.

:agree

Ashley, bring on more freckles! Heck, we may start a friendly freckle forum :lol3

Nice work, 'egg.

Very nice shots, Ashley! I think you did a great job for the most part in capturing her essence. She seems very poised and fun. Keep 'em coming! :thumb

Hi,
Thanks again for the comments and the protection of freckles everywhere! Dragon- thanks for explaining again. I understand it will be something I look for the next time I shot. Sometimes I feel like legs can be scraficed for an interesting angle but a picture can also always be cropped.
GPP- I know the second of the second set is blown and blurry but I like it more for it's 'life' than the first one. I hate that all my favorite shots, expressions, or poses always seem to be the blurriest of the bunch, don't you?
Charla- I also like that quote very much, must use it.
Andy- thanks for ringing in, much appreciated.
Thanks again everyone,
Ashley

yea...i see one shot that i look at on the LCD on the camera and im like "ohhhh thats awesome" then i look at it on my computer and im disappointed. I recently bought my first manual focus lens (the 105mm f/1.8) and this has happened a ton of times.

then i remember that i paid only $350 for the old nikkor manual focus whilst a shiny new 105 f/2 autofocus costs about $1000 and im happy! :beer

let me clarify. i do not find freckles to be unnatractive. i am definitely overwhelmed by the freckles in #3, but i love them in #1. sorry if i offended anyone, but i'm glad to see so many people in defense of freckles.

wow, I almost admire you : it must be quite a hard time to manually focus with a D50, isn't it ? It's a tough one even on my D200... :-/

Anyway, at least you're ready for the full frame if it ever happens ;)

nice save...freckle hater! :rofl

Antoine, ive never shot with any other DSLR so i dont know the difference. why is focusing with the D200 easier than the D50?

(sorry for hijacking your thread Ashley <3 )

Well, I wouldn't say focusing with the D200 is better than the D50: I'd rather tell the D50 is worst... :D :dunno

Focusing with APS-C sensored DSLR is anything but easy or clear :'(
Put your eye into a film slr and you'll see what I mean. Even pro-cameras suffer this...

Well, at least you've got the "green dot" to know whether you're in focus or not, but it takes much time.
