Cant upload AGAIN

I am trying to be understanding...
but this is getting...frustrating as hell.....
Deleted gallery - re-did gallery
ixnay again on the upload nay!

i know i'm going to hear about load balancers
life balancers and balencer balencers...

so here again it stalls, and now its going again...
i even called my T1 provider and told them i think my
connection is yuk...now i'm not so sure its my T1, but SM
17 MB out of 20...keeping my fingers crossed...!

well, they say that 3x is a charm... i just don't think we
should have to go through three upload attempts to
get our pix moving....

made it.... lets see how well the rest of the uploads go....

but the biggest offender is after an upload, i try to go the the new gallery i just loaded, and it just sits, and sits, and sits...coffee time

Adam, there are no probs I'm aware of. Let's try to diagnose the situation. Can you give me a traceroute from you, to us? Can you give me a dslreports line quality test?

This is *highly* unusual. You should see many lines of output, not a single line. I'm not sure why that is.

Would you mind trying a traceroute using the Network Utility?

In Finder, go to Applications -> Utilities -> Network Utility.

Then, select the "traceroute" tab and enter www.smugmug.com.

I'm still researching how on earth your initial traceroute could have shown only a single hop. More as I get it.

That all looks fine. I doubt the route is causing the problem.

Packet loss might be, though, if you do get a chance to run those DSL Reports tests.

Also on finishing its sticking on showing the last picture and both the progress meters are done and it shows this for like 30 seconds.

I am having the same problem, both last night and today9-18-2006. It is definitely some sort of smugmug issue all of my other uploads are running smoothly and my cable connection is fine, so what am I to do? I was supposed to have 2 galleries up last night for clients?

I'm actually 95mb of 250mb up with only minor errors showing in the log. I'm unable to use V2 or V2.1 of the OSX Uploader, it simply pretends to work but images never appear in the gallery. Maybe it's like V1 and images simply show up in random galleries. lol

I've got 1300 images to upload now and a large event shooting later in the week which will need posting too. I've been trying to post these images since Tuesday.

I've sent off an eMail to help@smugmug.com detailing my info. Sadly as a Mac guy I don't do traceroutes. It's not to say that it can't do it... I've just been pampered with Mac luck and have never had to search for such an animal thus far.

I do find it hard to believe that could be a user problem...

This is driving me nutty, in fact it's actually consumed my evenings for the last couple of days. The plus side is in reading and trying to absorb as much as possible on dgrin, I've found cool hacks to implement on my site.

I am getting email from people who would like to look at my galleries, but it is just too painful to have to go for dinner while one image opens. Hi Wayne, no worries at all! It *is* frustrating, and we want to help you.

We've been making changes to the uploaders. Things should be better as of now.

If not, we need to diagnose what's happening for you. May I suggest:

clear cookies, and cache, and login. Try again.

Next, if problems persist, do the following:

1) run a traceroute (on Windows - Start>Run>cmd>tracert www.smugmug.com and paste the results here.

2) run the line quality test here: www.dslreports.com (must register, but it's free)... paste the results here.

Then we can diagnose what's happening

I'm getting the java.net.SocketException: Connection reset by peer: socket write error

I'm using the Universal Uploader.

About 17 of 34 images are loading and then I get the error.

If I upload the images one by one, everything works fine. I tried the java applet and the dedicated os x upload tools linked on the smugmug.com side. But all the tools stall during a bulk upload. I have tried already to clear cache and cookies but this didn't change anything. The internet connection shouldn't be a problem as I tried the upload facilities with different ISPs (different phone lines dsl and also firms attached to the internet with other physical lines)

Yesterday I tried to bulk upload a set of images and it worked fine. Nevertheless uploading the images from a computer which is attached with a broad upload rate it is still impossible to upload complete image sets. Is it possible that a high upload rate stalls a bulk upload after some MB?

Hy, I can't fire a dslreport as I am behind a firewall and this firewall will not respond on pings. But I could ping from my machine to a defined host and find out how many packets are lost. So if you could give me the packet size and the destination host I could ping it and report the packet loss.

I did a big upload last night (during the possible maintenance period, at that) with no problems. Another big one this morning (43 full-size images)-- so it's working for me. Dunno if this is related, but it seems just a wee bit faster than in the past... :thumb

Finally I managed to find where my uploading probs came from. In my case the upload was stalled after some images due to a firewall which we have here in production. I will check what is exactly blocking the upload in my case. All other bulk image uploads worked fine.
