Search engine problems

Hi,

I have a problem that has just developed with search engine listings. I have over 6500 photos on my site, all with full captions and heaps of keywording. I have also worked pretty hard to develop quite a few strong inward links. I have hardly even moved in google rankings for the site www.cameronlaird.com (http://www.cameronlaird.com) and today I have noticed that when searching for Cameron Laird on google my site www.cameronlaird.com (http://www.cameronlaird.com) doesn't even show up. Only a couple of days ago when searching for 'townsville photographer' on msn search my site got the top three results - now it doesn't even appear. What is going on - can someone help. This is a priority for me as I have dropped all other forms of advertising, choosing to concentrate on search engine results.

I just checked out your web site, are you keywording at the gallery level ?

I checked out one or two of your galleries and they appeared to have the default smugmug meta tag keywords.

You will see these keywords...

<*meta name="keywords" content="Lorne Victoria Australia Landscapes Great Ocean Road David Parry photography Introversion" /*>

You really need to be keywording like this as well. I hope this makes sense.

I checked out one or two of your galleries and they appeared to have the default smugmug meta tag keywords.

You really need to be keywording like this as well. I hope this makes sense.

I could have sworn that I read that keywords at the gallery level weren't indexed by search engine spiders? However I am happy to add them in if it will make a difference!

I am stumped as to why I have dropped out nearly overnight...... To be honest with you all I am REALLY stressing about this.

Using Google's site status wizard (http://www.google.com/webmasters/) I saw that google doesn't index your page for whatever reasons. If you've got a gmail account you can add your page to the webmaster tools and perhaps can get detailed information about the problem. You just have to verify that the domain is yours by adding the meta-tag they give you to your head-tag section in the site customizations.

You can also try to submit your site for addition to the google search index. This is also possible via the link above.

EDIT:Also try posting a new blog entry once in a while to increase the links to your site. Reminds me that I haven't posted anything in almost a year...

Keywords, cross-linking, getting linked from, blogging, registering site with google, all of this is important.

Thanks again! I am going to get started on that now - do you know if there is a limit to the number of keywords in there? As an example, to the gallery http://www.cameronlaird.com/gallery/1819800 I added inxs band music rock concert photo photographer photography cameron laird townsville queensland australia freelance news editorial. Do they need to have comma's between each word or group of words?

edit: I am an idiot, yes use commas between keyword groups.

<snip>...and I don't see a problem with the length, it's still shorter than smugmug's default keywords string. :thumb
