Hi You'll

One of my favorite birds to shoot is the Snowy Egret.

Shot with Nikon D100 and 80-400VR 4.5-5.6 lens; ISO 250;focal length 165mm; Aperture priority and spot metering; 1/250 sec - f/9; exposure compensation
-0.7; white balance - cloudy

HarryLovely Harry.. I love the light on his/her back :clap :clap

this is my only attempt at a big white bird.. I'm not sure what kind of egret this is.. do you know? it was in Florida.. stood still for ages for me..

Hi Lynn,

Good capture there. They are hard to shoot w/o blowing out the details in the feathers. The Great Egret has a body length of 37-41 inches and a wing span of 55 inches. It is a thrill to see them take off and fly.

I have to get up in the AM to catch the light. Then I go home and nap until the sweet light of the late afternoon. Its rough being a photographer. :cry
