I was wondering if anyone has a trusted recovery software they have invested in ..... in the event that a hdd dies or a cd/dvd or flash card dies or becomes corrupt?

I am looking for a software that is affordable and will work on all types of storage media.

yes I googled, msn'd, yahoo'd.....

I am here posting cause I would like to hear from people not paid to say this or that product is great. :D

Scott,
I use "Active Undelete 5.1" $39.95, works really good.
http://www.active-undelete.com/

I had use this 3 times.

1- My friend deleted his pix from his memory card. restore all
2- My client formated her harddrive, I couldn't restore. I sent the HD to a restore company, they couldn't restore as well

3- I had another client with a damage HD, restore all important docs.

I highly recommend this tool, works great for me and have a affordable price.

For CD/DVD, I've had amazing success (100%) wiht IsoBuster. The price is right, too. I will send them the upgrade fee since the utility saved my butt, though. :clap

Photorescue (http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/) is highly regarded. But it doesn't do hard drives.

if its a problem with a compact flash card, you should be able to run "chkdsk" in windows and it should fix the problem.

I've had to do this before with audio on a corrupted card. Got my whole recording back.

Not to mention, its already a windows utility on your computer.

As for hard drives, I've used HDD Regenerator in the past...I found a free download on the web someplace, but it looks like they sell it on their webby for $60 (I think I'd look for the free copy myself) http://www.dposoft.net/ - I've read about it on computer geek type message boards and its held with pretty high regard.

I have used PhotoRec (http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec) successfully to recover Canon raw files from a CF card that I accidentally erased. It supports many different file types. It will work with hard disks and CDs as well, though I never tried those. It's freeware, but it is a bit geeky. There is a companion program called TestDisk which can recover lost disk partitions, but again, I have no personal experience with that. Fortunately. :D

FWIW.
