Freature Request: replacing phorographs

I have been putting a lot of older photpgrahs on Smugmug. When I discover that some of those photographs can be improved in Photoshup, for better printing, I want to be able to upload a replacement.

I know I can upload a new version and delete the old but then the photograph number changes, breaking any links in external web sites. I just want to replace the contents of the photograph.

Welcome and many thanks for the suggestion!

Unfortunately, the honest answer is I don't think we'll implement it. :huh

The problem is the browser believes the content hasn't changed because it's the same URL so it doesn't feel a need to fetch a new version of the image. It just diplays the old one, much to the dismay of the person who just replaced it and thinks it should display the new one. And they send email to smugmug to report our bad.

People in the know can hold down shift and click refresh and usually get it to fetch all new images, but your mileage may vary depending on browser type, cache configuration, etc.

I wish we had a better answer for you.
