Community - owner authorization required

Did a search but couldn't find this mentioned previously.

How does the community membership option "public, owner authorization required" work?

If I invite someone, are they automatically authorized?

I was assuming I would get an e-mail or notice somehow when someone joined the community. However one person that I invited joined without me being notified.

you'll not get an email. But you can check your community homepage at anytime and see who's joined. OK?
