View Full Version : I have a new Domain Name ..now how do I install it?
I just got a new domain name (ctmphoto.net) and I want to use it for my smugmug account (www.photogenic.smugmug.com (http://www.photogenic.smugmug.com)). How do I make the switch? Also, after I make the switch, will people still be able to view my page if they type in www.photogenic.smugmug.com (http://www.photogenic.smugmug.com)??

Who did you go through to get your domain name? And yes, people will still be able to go to http://photogenic.smugmug.com/ to see your site. In fact you will have to go to your smugmug.com site in order to be able to log in, add photos, etc.

Mike and Ivar,
Thanks for the quick replies.
Mike- I went through joker.com. Someone at Smugmug told me they are the best and easiest to set up.

They are great.
Set up a CNAME Alias for your domain, to www.smugmug.com and then put your domain name
www.yourdomain.com in the domain field in your control panel.

Andy,
I am now at the Step you were just describing:
What would I put in for that? www.ctmphoto.net (http://www.ctmphoto.net)? I don't want to mess this up so I thought I would check with you first.
Thanks.http://www.smugmug.com/img/help/host.gif

This page just came up...not sure what they mean. Any ideas?
It is not allowed to create 'CNAME' record if an 'A' record with the same name exists. First delete the 'A' record.https://joker.com/templates/uk/images/spacer.gifhttps://joker.com/templates/uk/images/err_lb.gifhttps://joker.com/templates/uk/images/err_rb.gifhttps://joker.com/templates/uk/images/spacer.gifCreate an CNAME (Alias) record in ctmphoto.netConfiguration-SampleYou want to have: www.ctmphoto.net pointing to 'www.another-domain.com'You have to enter:
'www' as '(Sub-)Domain' and 'www.another-domain.com' (your desired domain alias) as 'Alias' Add entry for domain: ctmphoto.net Alias (CNAME-Entry)(Sub-)Domain: .Alias: Use "Save" to save your changes, "< back" to abort.

Thanks Ivar. However, joker.com brought me back to step 6 as indicated in my previous post. Any ideas?I've not used joker.com.... but since they say 'delete the A record', i would delete the A record. Can't offer you any other advice, sorry.

First do a CNAME Only. If you wish, you can forward your Joker sign on info to help@smugmug.com and our staff can do it for you, no problems :D
