guys, the challenge rules state that you *must* put at minimum the date shot in your challenge entry.

please, edit your posts and include the shot date so that you won't be disqualified.

Euuhhmmm, I thought these things belonged to the pictures if you take them with a digital camera. I thought they were embedded.
Does that mean we have to check our pics wether they have them?
How do you attach exif or maybe the question needs to be how would you get these things out???
Can you shed any light on this Andy? Thx...

If you need something to help read the exif data, try this (http://www.takenet.or.jp/~ryuuji/minisoft/exifread/english/).

Yohsimoto-san is pretty good about letting you know when there's a new
version as well.

Well shit. That sucks. Is this a new rule? or did I just miss it when I first read them and joined dgrin?
I haven't logged on for about 24 hours (sick child). And..... well...... we sleep when you guys are awake, so I didn't get to read this until after the challenge thread was closed.

So I guess I'm disqualified ? !
:cry :cry :cry

Phew !!!! :D

It must do it automatically. This is a good thing because I have no idea what 'exif' is !!!!

Thanks for clearing that up Andy.

PS: I just went back and re-read the challenge rules thread. I think it only states that the shot must be taken during the challenge period, not that we need to actually put the date in the post? And there might be some other dummies out there like me who aren't up with the 'lingo' re: 'exif' ???
Maybe this needs to be put a bit more plainly ie: "put the date the photo was taken in your entry post" !!! plain and simple!! ???
Wouldn't want any other dummies like me out there to get caught short!

Just a suggestion - ?:D

Are there nikonians out there who have trouble finding the ASA in the Exif?
I hate it that I can't read the asa... I have to import it into a special program just for the ASA...
It does not show in photoshop or in portfolio. (D70)

Maybe I missed it in the instructions somewhere :dunno but how do I keep the exif data when converting from raw to jpg? I've only had my rebel for about 2 weeks and just getting to the raw format.

I know I had the same panic attack.. I went back to the original raw file and opened it in ps and looked up the "file info" under file... phew.. glad I always keep my raw files...:1drink

So it's not possible to keep the exif attached when converted?

So it's not possible to keep the exif attached when converted? If you "save for the web" within ps it strips the exif information, if you "save as" its retained (I think:D)

I don't have cs I only have elements 2 and I didn't think I could view raw in elements. I've been using the zoombrowser to convert and it has the "save as" and it doesn't seem to do it, I read some where that elements 3 is out and does raw. Maybe this is what I need for my price range, It's not necesary to have I just "assumed" it was possible.

Mike, I just had a quick look in your "florida trip" gallery and the first shot has its exif information. Click on "more photo details" underneath the large picture

I took those in jpg due to lack of storage room for raw. I tried this morning to upload a raw image of my house and deleted it already, but it didn't even know I was using a Rebel. But thanks for checking.

One of the things I did'nt realize in Photoshop CS was that if you "save as" with 16bits it won't offer you jpeg saving... only when converted to 8bits :doh only took me three years to figure that out.. so I've been "saving for the web".
This is what happens when you're self taught.. learn a lot, and miss a lot :rofl

I submitted a photo I took Sunday night and I added several layers to make a background and re-saved. In this case, would the EXIF be lost if I understand your posts correctly?

If so, I will grab the original EXIF from the photo tonight, but likely too late.

I had the same problem when I got my D70. Never ran into this 16bit issues w/ my older P&S.

Andy had put the following lines in the Challenge 26 tread (it is below the picture of the lunch bags on the table).

this thread, is the one into which you post your challenge entry, and remember, one entry per person, and the photo must be fresh, taken during the challenge period. you must post the date the photograph was taken or it will be deemed ineligible.
