Got this by PM:
Have not been around for a bit, trying to get back into the swing of things....I had a quick question for the New yorker in ya...I know that you are always talking about the Brooklyn sellers...I am looking to buy a 20D from Butterflyphoto.com. I see that there address is in brooklyn, but they have lots of positve reviews on pricgrabber and Cnet. Do you know this seller? Trustworthy? I searched the forums and only found a few post that mention them.
Thanks for any info....

I only shop at B&H - I don't trust ANY of the Brooklyn outfits. Regardless of any reviews you might see out there.

I have bought many accessories from Digital Foto Discount Club and have had good results. Granted, I never had a problem with anything so I never really talked to anyone there, but everything was shipped to me safely and securely.

They're based out of Brooklyn and I'd definitely order from them again considering the price that I paid for the other stuff.

edit to add: I want to stress that I only bought accessory items, no big money items, nothing was over $100 and nothing that could really be broken.

Absolutely second what Andy said..no reason to take a risk
Compare the photos in the link Andy provided to this (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=RootPage.jsp&A=getpage&Q=HelpCenter/NYSuperStore.jsp)
To get a idea of how many of these firms operate, read this (http://thomashawk.com/2005/11/priceritephoto-abusive-bait-and-switch.html)

Earlier this year I purchased a large-screen TV from Butterflyphoto.com and found it to be a fine experience. That said, for added protection, I always use my American Express when making purchases (dispute resolution, warranty extension, etc.).

Low marks on customer service and "would shop there again" and stories about "upselling".

How much risk are you willing to assume to save a few bucks? :dunno

Many stores in Brooklyn are scam artists.
Some like digitalfotoclub and sigma4less are reputable sellers as well.
Resellerrating and checking pricegrabbers is a good thing to do before you buy from anyone. As they say, "if it sounds too good to be true..."

Of course, we'd be remiss if we didnt give credit to the biggest success story against these scumbags

That story was one of those proud web moments of all-time. If you have never read the story before, be sure to click that link and see that one motivated buyer can make a difference!
Edit... whoops, it was already linked above LOL
See how well known that story was ;)

I've bought a few lenses from sigma4less as well, and they came in perfect condition, packed well, and would definitely buy from them again.

I Just bought 4 lenses (Sigma's 150mm, 70-200 f/2.8, 17-35 2.8-4, Bigma) a 580EX flash, a spare battery for the 5D, and a TC80N3 Remote. Very happy with the prices and packing etc. Would definitely look at them next time I am looking to buy stuff
Do pay attention to their notices about closings etc, they do not process orders when they are closed, and they are closed every friday through September, if I remmber rightly :rofl
