Yes, good thoughts. Like the concept. Reflection works for me, the wooden door forms a good background. Great picture.

I like the idea alot. I thought at first glance that you might have not realized you got the reflection when trying to capture just the door and handle. But then I saw what you wrote and I agree I think it works very well. I do like this alot, but I was wondering about something else that might be cool with the same exact composition except minus the camera. Could the camera be set up at some angle to where it would not show up in the reflection but keep pretty much the same composition? Maybe on a tripod off to the side on a timer with you and your family interacting in the reflection. Kinda a capture of your family in its element oblivious to the photo being taken. I dont know if you have time to try something like that, but i think it would be really cool. This does work for me the way it is though so dont think that is a knock on this shot. Keep up the great shooting.:thumb

thanks Mike. Yeah, I thought about trying something like that. I found that it was REEALLY hard to get the camera out of the reflection and still keep an angle that actually showed anything IN the reflection. That doorknob is about like a fisheye lens. It shows about 180º, so it's hard to get anything to NOT show up in it. And since it's a "no photoshop" challenge, the thought of just flat-out faking it was out!

I really like this shot too, The door and handle (in a sense) frame the family portrait, its a bit different and thats what I like about it. Its not a 'standard' family portrait.

The white door and shiny door handle work really well together.
