Hi folks

As a newbie to all this web design stuff, I'm still working on trying to figure out what all the codes mean.

I have seen some wonderful sites on smugmug and have been reading the tutorials, etc to try to figure out how they made those things work on their websites. So far I'm just confused. :dunno

Currently I just have the header and my galleries listed on the homepage, but would really like to have a more professional looking site with navigational bars to a bio site, galleries, links, etc. I have read some of the help messages for making nav bars, but I can't get my mind around how to link it all together. Do I need to make seperate pages for each thing before I can make the navigationl buttons?

I really like the way pages are set up that have nav bar under the header, with buttons for a bio site, contact info, galleries, and links. I'd also like to either have a slide show or a large photo under that.

I'm ready to give it a go, but since fire season is my "busy season" in my other job (fire and aircraft dispatcher for USFS/BLM) I travel a lot during the summer and have limited time for working on my website. I leave again on Monday for another 2 week assignment, so am hoping to make some headway with my webpage over the weekend.

Also with being so limited on knowledge and time, I would definately consider paying someone to fix this for me if there is someone interested in doing that.

Thanks for all suggestions, tips, help, etc. Really appreciate the knowledgable folks on this website and look forward to being an active member.

1) read my n00b thread, sticky on this forum
2) follow the instructions for a navbar.
3) either put the navbar html in your header section, and the css in your css section, or post it here for me to do that for you
4) put your galleries into categories (e.g., "fire photos" or "Galleries" or "Portfolio"

Then, the navbar link for "Galleries" is linked, by html in your header html, thusly:

http://yoursitename.com/Galleries

We'll help!

I went to the Noob sticky and followed/pasted the codes. It did put a nav bar on the website but very small and needs to be bigger. How can I expand it?

Ok, after I fix that, how do I link the nav buttons to each page? I already have photos into galleries on my home page. The bio part is at top of the home page, and I don't have a page set up yet for links and contact info. Will the nav bar link take me to a blank page to do that?

Sorry if I'm really out in left field but I am really having trouble with making sense of all this code stuff. <sigh>.

Again, many thanks for taking the time to help.

OK I made them a little bigger, and gave you some space from your header. I made a new gallery, category other, private, called Bio. I linked that in your header HTML and you can hit it from your navbar.

You can easily change the colors of your navbar. The #XXX color codes can be changed to red, blue, yellow, etc. Or for a gazillion other choices, go to photoshops color picker and pick one, and then be sure to make it #XXXXXX

Thanks so much for all your help - I followed what you had done and added more galleries, and tried changing size of buttons. I think I did ok, but would like to have the buttons larger and spaced evenly, with the Bio button - Contact Info and Links buttons underneath the gallery buttons.

I know you are going on vacation starting today, so hope to talk to you again when you get back. Have fun!

Hmm. Doesn't seem to be sticky all by itself. Sorry about that. Should be the first entry in http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=20742

Good luck!
