Heres a Roadrunner from the Ft Worth Zoo. Very sad to see such a brilliant bird stuck behind glass. Theres alot of intelligence behind those eyes.

hi Dani! Lovely shot. And I like the story you tell. I'm with you about zoos... I have mixed feelings about animals in captivity.

Hey Dani
Great to have you here!! You have some lovely images on your hoempage. I really like your road-runner too :clap , but they do not have to be zoo animals. Mine was shot in Bosque Del Apache in New Mexico :clap :D
I also liked the Audi TT shots

Thanks All!

Pathfinder, nice shot! I used to live in Albuquerque (and farmington before and after that) and my apartment complex and the college campus was crawling with roadrunners. Never did take any photos of them though :(: that was way before I owned a digicam.

No roadrunners that I've seen out here in oklahoma :dunno

for Nir (about intelligence) I have a story (kinda graphic)

I was on campus one day taking a break before class and noticed a bunch of rabbits on the grounds. So I'm watching all these little rabbits hopping around and grazing but I noticed one furrball that wasn't moving.. it just seemed curled up really tight. :dunno So I'm watching as another rabbit hops up to this curled up furball... when the furball went into action! It wasn't a rabbit at all... it was a roadrunner, curled up in an ambush ball. It waited for a rabbit to get close then it jumped up, wings outspread and pounded the rabbit to death with its feet. Then it picked it up and carried it off. :eek1

It was a tactical ambush lol. I talked with a friend who used to work with predatory birds and he's never heard of one doing that before. Smart birds ;)

ok thats it for my story :D

That is kind of interesting - I was surprised when I shot the images of the roadrunner how unconcerned it was - It would let me get within 5 feet of it without any apparent alarm. Predators are like that sometimes..... I didn't realize they ate rabbits though.

:DThey eat rabbits?? I didn't even realise they were predatory, but we don't see too many roadrunners over here!

I paid $3 but shipping was a whopping $6! That bad boy weighed in at nearly 3lbs. I still remember the look on everyone's face around me whenever I whipped that camera out. :wink
