Ok... i'm pretty new at this and my site is pretty basic. Here's what I'm looking to do. I want my home page to have a nav bar and one big picture. I don't want all of my galleries showing on the first page... but i have no clue where to start. I've been searching the forums for days looking for tips, i just can't seem to figure it out. Is there anyone out there willing to help me with some coding? I'm stuck! LOL Please help me!

:wave Welcome To Dgrin!

OK first, read my "so you're a n00b thread":
http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=31647 you'll find the navbar tute linked there. And my FAQ.

Basically:

1) create the navbar by doing the tute. the html goes in your header html section and the css goes in your css section.

2) once you do that, post here. we'll help you style it.

3) to remove your galleries, put them all in categories that you'll be linking from your navbar (at least the ones you want found...) e.g., "Portfolio" or "Galleries" etc

4) once you have done that, then hide everything from your homepage but the galleries box. (put them in your control panel by clickingn "hide"

5) you'll use code like this to hide the rest:

.homepage #galleriesBox { display: none;}
.loggedIn .homepage #galleriesBox {display: block !important;}

6) the "one large photo) you can display either in your BIO or via your footer. If in you bio (easiest) just do this:

<html>
<img src="http://www.smugmug.com/photos/xxxxxx-M.jpg">
</html>

We'll help you to sytle the rest once you've done all this.

Andy! You are freakin' awesome! LOL Thank you so much! My homepage now looks exactly like i want it too. I've had a pro smugmug account from almost a year now and haven't done a darn thing to it... my bad for not looking into it and seeing how much customization i could actually do. Now i just need to find out how to get my nav bar to actually go somewhere LOL Thank you again!

Now... one more question and i'll leave you alone for the night ;)... how do i get that one big picture on my homepage to only show on my homepage and nowhere else? I'm sorry for being so ignorant about this stuff... i'm trying ha ha. Please check it out and let me know what you think: www.hummelsphotography.smugmug.com (http://www.hummelsphotography.smugmug.com)
I'm still working on getting the navbar to actually go to the right places but in the meantime I'm totally happy with what i've accomplished with your help. Thanks again!

ok, your code for the image is currently this...

<img src="http://hummelsphotography.smugmug.com/photos/45474257-M.jpg">

if you modify it to this...

<img id="homepageImage" src="http://hummelsphotography.smugmug.com/photos/45474257-M.jpg">

and then add this to your css..

#homepageImage {display:none;}
.homepage #homepageImage {display:block;}

Cheers,

David

Hi David,
Thank you so much for your input! I appreciate your help more than you know! I did this... and it took it off of all the pages but it took it off of the homepage as well and left a box with a red "X" there. Any ideas?
I'm getting closer and closer! :)
Thanks!

HTML GALLERY (http://www.dgrin.com/showpost.php?p=186127&postcount=19) From my FAQ (http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=26043)

The concept is, you make a new gallery. You follow the instructions I laid out. The HTML goes in the gallery description, surrounded by <html> and </html>

When you have the gallery going, we'll get you sorted with styling it and fixing any html errors or questions.

You can do it!

Once again Andy,
you're a life saver! It's working perfectly! Thank you so much!
I've gotta tell you, i was telling my wife how much help you guys have been lending and she was completely blown away; as was I. Your guys' smugmug and dgrin support is unheard of. You've just got yourself a longtime customer! Thank you again!
