Photograph Cropping Style

Here is a certain style of photograph cropping that I find quite engaging. I'm not sure if this has a formal name. The simple description of the style: crop the photograph to the shape and borders of the photographed object. Here is an example from my photo gallery representing this technique.

Works for me. I like what you've done, the crop certainly fits the subject matter.

yeah, there's definately a place for that style of cropping - as your photo so aptly shows. Now if we can get the general public to realize that not all pictures have to be printed/displayed in a standard format...

I've been doing this for years ... having the photo dictate the crop not the paper.

But, (the big but), to make life easier on myself not having to get into odd framing and such. I have created multiple, wide and flexible borders which will increase or decrease in width or length to accommodate the odd crop.

That way all the photos, regardless of crop, can be printed and framed using standard size papers and standard size frames (often one uses matting to make up the difference ... but mats don't work on every frame).

BTW- I print in a Desk Top Publishing Program which makes creating and altering the multiple borders quite easy.

I dig it but think it might be stronger without the white border on a black background.
