I am considering this image for a local photo contest, but would like to run it by the whipping post first.

Fire away...

:thumb over all it is a nice pic.....
but it seems a tad soft....not in focus...but overall...like it is covered in light haze.
needs a tad bit more pop..contast.....

Do remember that all likes and dislikes are purely subjective of the ones giving judgment......

Pretty model, excellent dress, coooool train. I like the overall hue of the shot and the model's placement. I also like the colors of parts of the train reflecting her same skin tones. I also like the contrast between the model's softness and smile and hard, cold, traditional train lines. Vanishing point is excellent. But:

1. deathgrip on handrail
2. not sharp
3. train cropped out of shot
4. because of your vantage point, focus of shot seems not on the model but on the train. perhaps if you'd moved further to the left you'd have featured her more and drawn my eyes to hers.

I'm not certain of my critique, so feel free to critique my critique.

:agree with your critique. I think the tones and contrast of the image are just fine. They fit the image well.

The only other thing I thought of is that the railing in front of the model is too strong an element and detracts from her too much. You may want to try different poses, including one of her in front of the railing perhaps holding up a parasol over her shoulder?

I'm wondering if reversing the image. to place the model on the left side of the shot, would make a difference in making her the focus of the shot...

I was wondering if you would be monitoring the old whipping post.

It was like fate... I searched by new posts (something I rarely do) and saw you getting a whuppin. I told you they don't hold back on the whipping post!

Yeah. About a week ago I posted the one of Casey from the Galveston shoot, and got absolutely whupped. That's okay, though, it helps you get better.

if you're going for a standard color portrait of a model shot, I agree with all above-

when I first saw it, I was wondering if you were going for a certain look, almost like a hand painted portrait to go with the period setup-

if that's the case, then I wonder if you almost have to overdo it to get the point across-

At the time the shot was taken, it was a standard model shot. For the contest, I wanted more of an oil painting portrait look. Unfortunately, the contest rules allow for very little digital manipulation.
